A problem that has been bugging me for ages now but why is it so difficult to add a vertical menu on the home page??

For example the http://www.hmv.com with the "browse by department" menu on the left hand side.

Is there a way to do this without having to pay for an extensions?

I tried the vertical navigation extensions but it looked horrible...

which extension have you tried?

if it was just the looks you didnt like, but apart from that it worked then I would suggest you take that as a starting point and then customise the visual design to suit.

think I might have to as I can't find other extensions anywhere. I will have to edit the css of the file I think. Hope this isn't going to be too difficult to do....
