Bolton Children's Book Award 2008 at Bolton Literacy Trust". Boltonliteracytrust.org.uk . Retrieved 18 November 2012. [ permanent dead link] Derek Landy is an Irish writer and screenwriter. In addition to the bestselling children's/YA series of Skulduggery Pleasant books, a supernatural mystery series starring Skulduggery Pleasant, a skeleton detective, and Valkyrie Cain, a young female magician, he has written two screenplays that have been made into films: the IFTA award winning "Dead Bodies" and the IFTA nominated "Boy Eats Girl". Landy himself was nominated for an IFTA for Best Script. Resurrection – A lot has changed. Roarhaven is now a magical city, where sorcerers can live openly. Valkyrie Cain has been out of action for years, recovering from the war against her alter-ego Darquesse, which nearly destroyed her and everyone else. Some things never change though: bad people still want to do bad things, and Skulduggery Pleasant is still there to stop them. I am quite sad though that Dexter and Saracen's, how do we say, romantic development happened only in a "what might have been" sense of events. I am glad that all of them didn't die but since all of them but Dexter did in fact die in the end, I'm still really sad.

Landy, Derek (April 2021). Dead or Alive: Book 14 (Skulduggery Pleasant). HarperCollins. ISBN 978-0008386290. The strongest parts of this story for me were Ghastly and Skulduggery. To really hear things from Ghastly'd perspective after so long was refreshing. When I heard about a Skulduggery Pleasant prequel to say I was excited is an understatement. I can and will consume everything Derek writes relating to this series, and that includes books that are prequels but also aren’t prequels. This isn’t really a prequel. Of course it was good, in the way that Skulduggery Pleasant is always good because it is Skulduggery Pleasant, but I felt it didn’t have the same excitement and rush as some of the other books. Obviously they are longer and are part of an overarching plot, but this as a one-off didn’t hit the same mark. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. I quite liked this book. But apparently not everyone else did, and i am wondering why. Maybe it's been too long since i read the previous books, but i really enjoyed this book. There was the usual writing and plot twists that i loved. Skulduggery was slightly different, but it just shows character development (in the other books). In fact, I really enjoyed a lot of it. The whole idea of a prequel worked surprisingly great: Lots of characters you know and love - but with a twist, because it's set in the early 18th century and much of the later character development hasn't happened yet. (Also, you get to revisit some favourites that got killed off, which is awesome.) The whole thing centers around the Dead Men, so hilarity happens.

I felt like I just read an AU fanfic written by the author himself… and while it was quite trippy, I’m not entirely mad? Hella confused and a little bit disappointed but to be very honest, I’m a diehard SP fan so this review … will be way too biased. When it comes to SP, all rationality dies and so do I.Landy is an established horror writer, and the combats between Skulduggery, Serpine and his legions of Hollow Men and vampires rival the climaxes of the Potter films for hair-raising effects; it isn't often that writing makes you feel as if you are watching a film. [46] In a matter of days, the world will change. Billions of lives will be wiped away in a final, desperate search for Alice, the Child of the Faceless Ones – she who is destined to bring about the return of humankind's ancient overlords. To prevent this, Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain have one last – terrible – option: the assassination of Damocles Creed. With protests stirring in the magical city of Roarhaven, with riots and revolutions on the horizon, Valkyrie must decide who she wants to be: the hero who risks everything for a noble ideal, or the killer who sacrifices her own soul for the fate of humanity. The decision must be made, and time is running out. [28] Until the End [ edit ] Playing with Fire – With Serpine dead, the world is safe once more. At least, that’s what Valkyrie and Skulduggery think, until the notorious Baron Vengeous makes a bloody escape from prison, and dead bodies and vampires start showing up all over Ireland. With Baron Vengeous after the deadly armour of Lord Vile, and pretty much everyone out to kill Valkyrie, the daring detective duo face their biggest challenge yet. But what if the greatest threat to Valkyrie is just a little closer to home…?
