About this deal

Now the threads of the SJA continue in a new audio drama series. Fashioned around Sarah Jane’s protégé Rani Chandra (Anjli Mohindra), it brings her up to date; Rani is now a successful investigative journalist. She’s not the only returnee either — Daniel Anthony reprises the likeable Clyde Langer, while Mina Anwar pops up as Rani’s irrepressible mother Gita. While Gita samples the canapés and criticises the flower arrangements, Rani senses something amiss...The perfect wedding comes at a price -but who will be paying? Review: I’ve always thought The Sarah Jane Adventures was the best Doctor Who spin-off. Big Finish has done a marvelous job of recapturing what made it such a wonderful show. All the while, the writers allow Rani and Clyde to organically develop into adults.

Like the present day Rani herself, Rani Takes on the World is a series still finding its feet. Keen not to simply replicate the Sarah Jane Adventures formula, each story in Beyond Bannerman Road feels like an experiment. It asks itself how dark and adult is too dark and adult; how much should Rani and Clyde have changed and how much should they have stayed the same? It may not always be consistent in the answers to those questions. But that mirrors the pair’s own anxieties about life and their places in it. And with the final moments unveiling a Rani Chandra with a new sense of purpose, a new mission, and a new determination, it suggests there are exciting answers ahead of us.The Revenge of Wormwood, to be released in December 2023, will be the second volume in the Rani Takes on the World audio series from Big Finish, and stars Anjli Mohindra as Rani Chandra, and Daniel Anthony as Clyde Langer.

Sarah Jane is gone. Childhood ends. Everyone grows up eventually. But the story doesn’t stop there. When Rani and Clyde are reunited, adventure finds them once again – ready and waiting to take on the world! Here Today by Joseph Lidster But, tonight, Clyde isn’t the only visitor to Ealing… In the skies above, a flying saucer approaches – and only one person on Earth can stop it destroying London! Original series writer Joe Lidster channels the spirit of the Sarah Jane Adventures while providing what a fresh start

Anjli Mohindra Returns as Rani!

Flexing the series’ comedy chops, writer James Goss pairs Rani with Gita for a trip to private island. The occasion is the wedding of an old school friend, Tiffany, who’s apparently marrying a Hollywood star.

While Gita samples the canapés and criticises the flower arrangements, Rani senses something amiss… The perfect wedding comes at a price – but who will be paying? The parade of A-list celebrities just out of microphone range may outstay its welcome as a gag. But the story successfully nudges the set out of CBBC territory What this story does really well is set up the characters for this run and, more importantly, the tone going forward. This is very clearly a follow on to SJA, but it is adding a definite edge that the original series did have but shied away from. In terms of the side cast, the characters exclusive to this story are fine, and while the characters that are set up for future stories don't get much exploration, it's clear that they are still very much in the set-up stage. The three tales in this set follow Rani and Clyde’s journeys after losing Sarah Jane. What I love is that the tone of the stories isn’t maudlin. Rani and Clyde are allowed to process their grief while celebrating their own accomplishments. snapped in the salubrious surroundings of the Big Finish car park (where else?) Script Editor Matt Fitton tells us a little more too: In three full-cast audio dramas, Rani ( Anjli Mohindra), now an award-winning journalist, faces a mysterious alien spaceship, discovers the trust cost of a picture-perfect wedding day, and takes her podcast listeners behind-the-scenes of her most terrifying investigation yet!

When she appeared in 2022’s International Women’s Day release The Eighth of March: Protectors of Time, we learned that Rani is following in her mentor’s footsteps; her new investigations promise a flying saucer, a destination wedding and a haunted restaurant. Rani Chandra Goes Beyond Bannerman Road

Sarah Jane Smith was a huge part of Rani's formative teenage years. How did this influence and inspire the woman she is today? That's what this series — Rani Takes on the World— is all about… But tonight Clyde isn’t the only visitor to Ealing… In the skies above, a flying saucer approaches – and only one person on Earth can stop it destroying London!
