Control art for Masterpiece Starscream which showed the figure wearing his Crown of Leadership (as seen in the coronation scene of the original animated movie) and a pair of otherwise-pointless flip-out notches in the finished toy's shoulders indicated that Takara planned for a set of clip-on coronation gear. The toy doubles as the Starscream drones in Wings Universe and as an unnamed character in 2019 IDW continuity.

There have been reports of the fins on his ankles being discolored though my copy does not have this issue. In 2019, he also saw an official release in Australia, where he was available from Mr Toys Toyworld. Like Gentei Ghost Starscream, Masterpiece Ghost Starscream is cast in light purple translucent plastic instead of just colorless clear plastic like the G1 Ghost Starscream figure. He has three peg-holes on each arm, allowing the null-rays to be mounted on his shoulders, on his forearms, or in his fists. Despite still using the numbering system of Hasbro's Masterpiece line begun in 2013, Starscream was co-branded as part of the Generations line.

The transformation is pretty straightforward and can probably be memorized with a couple back and forths. His design and transformation scheme is heavily based on his 2006 Classics figure while adding points of articulation the earlier figure did not have such as pivoting ankles, a more expressive ball-jointed head, and hinges that allow the wings to fold backward in robot mode. Sharing many design elements with his Masterpiece toy, Starscream still transforms into an F-15 Eagle, but has the nose of an F-14 Tomcat fighter jet. Released exclusively in Japan instead of the individual Classic Pretender figures, rather than in addition to them, this giftset contained the "Legends" versions of Pretender Starscream and his fellow Classic Pretenders, Bumblebee, Jazz, and Grimlock.

For those into nice "real life" details working their way into vehicle modes, look in the cockpit and you'll see a seat and an instrument panel in front of it. It improves upon things such as having the panels the arms are attached to pegged solidly into the chest piece.This design was revived by Draxhall Jump when they were contracted to create the Marvel Megamorphs line for Toy Biz; Starscream ultimately became the Iron Man toy.
