Cover beds with sheeting- use polythene or weed suppressant membrane to cover areas this keeps weed growth at bay and allows you to sow earlier next spring. There is very little to sow or plant now in time for harvesting this year. However as space becomes vacant from crops harvested you can begin to plant out overwintering crops, such as Broad beans- sow seeds of early varieties, they should overwinter and give you a crop in the following June. When planning your allotment year consider how much you will be limited if the season turns wet. Choose maincrop cultivars of peas, potatoes and carrots that give heavy yields even if sown late.
