About this deal

Sam is a member of North Hants Golf Club in Fleet, Hampshire, where he won the club championship 3 times in succession from 2015-2017. His golfing highlight to date is shooting a round of 10-under 60 at his home club, narrowly missing a wedge shot for a magical 59. Of course the most resourceful thing to do would have been to just google the solution as soon as the problem occurred, but hindsight is a wonderful thing! Similar to the other models on our list, the Shot Scope Pro L1 is rather compact in size and allows you to operate with just one hand. What we like about the GolfBuddy Laser Lite is that there is not much that you will have to give up on; the product has everything the average golfer and even lower handicapper needs to perform on the course.

For the record, the fix was actually quite simple; hold down the mode button until it toggles between yards and metres. When it comes to usability in these budget golf rangefinders, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that because of the limited features that you will find; the rangefinders become quite easy to use. The bad news is that they can sometimes be a little harder to work with when getting yardages over the 150-yard mark. Tough, Durable and Water Resistant:Designed and built with quality materials makes the ProL1 a durable and long lasting laser. It is water resistant, meaning there are no excuses on those rainy days!

Like most modern rangefinders, the Shot Scope PRO L1 starts working the moment you install the (included) battery. One press of the power button brings up the aiming crosshairs, another press gives you the distance. The GolfBuddy Laser Lite is a compact rangefinder that fits easily in the palm of your hand. You will have no trouble feeling as though you have control of the unit as you hunt down your pin. Perhaps the most crucial feature of the GolfBuddy Laser Lite is the slope functionality. In addition, there is a scan mode on the Nikon that works a bit differently than other models. With the 8-second continuous measurement scan, you will be able to move your rangefinder around and see the measurements change as you scroll over different areas. Comparing the two is not really fair considering the Shot Scope comes in at less than half the cost of the Garmin and is understandably not going to fare well in any direct head to head comparison. Yet it is only human nature to compare and when certain features I’d started to take for granted with the Z82 were suddenly not available, I’ll admit to feeling a little disappointed initially. On one hand, it’s the latest entry in the growing field of high-featured yet modestly priced rangefinders. On the other, the Shot Scope PRO L1 is a touchpoint for a deeper and more interesting conversation.

You may wonder if the PRO L1 sacrifices accuracy. It does not. I tested it against rangefinders that are twice the price, and it was consistently within half of a yard. The only negative is that it’s a bit slower than some more expensive models, but we’re talking about the difference between one full second and a half second. There are two main modes available, as well as a third that doesn't really seem to have much purpose but can nevertheless be quite fun. The first (M1) is a scanning mode that displays distances almost instantly and will change as you scan the fairway, green, hazards etc. This is useful for when you need to know how far you need to carry the ball over a lake, or to lay up short of a bunker etc. Voice technology is something that we have seen in GPS rangefinders for quite some time. If you think this could benefit you on a laser rangefinder, then the GolfBuddy Aim L10V is the place to look. This scrapes in the top end of our ‘budget round up’, but offers great function for the price. Accuracy The best budget golf rangefinder for the money with slope is the GolfBuddy Laser Lite. The slope functionality can be turned on and off, and the accuracy of this rangefinder is unparalleled within this price range. Do not aim directly at the sun. Eyes can be permanently damaged by looking into the sun with this device and it can cause permanent damage to components inside the device. From within 200 yards, you will not find more accurate than the GolfBuddy Laser Lite, possibly as accurate, but this really holds its ground against all rangefinders out there. In our testing we found it to be 99.5% accurate, which for the price is something that is hard to beat.
