One of the best things about having a 7-piece kit like the PDP Concept Maple and the Gretsch Catalina Maple is the diversity it gives you in your drum setup. You don’t have to set up each of the seven drums each time. You can choose to place different-sized toms for varying configurations.

Before purchasing your beginner kit, there are two important questions you need to know the answer to. After playing it, I couldn’t help but think that the DW Collector’s Series Purpleheart Lacquer is one of the best drum sets you can use for recording due to how good the drums sounded through mics. All the toms and the bass drum have 7-ply maple shells while the snare drum has a 10-ply maple shell. These drums are incredibly punchy. It’s very common to see one of these kits being used in a Gospel setting because of this. Hoops are die-cast zinc, more consistent and structurally solid than triple-flangers. Many kits now come with good quality heads that you should be able to tune-up out of the box, but these heads are again designed to be all-rounders. With a bit of practice and some tuning aids such as muffling, you’ll get it sounding great in no time.
