About this deal

Each of these Numicon posters have been carefully made by Twinkl in collaboration with Oxford University Press. This means that you can rest assured that you can use this resource to provide a top quality teaching experience while cutting down on that pesky preparation time. Put the smaller shape on top of the bigger shape, and encourage your child to count the difference between the two shapes (i.e. to count the holes in the bigger shape that are not covered). Being a physical resource, each Numicon shape offers an image of how a number looks like. Students start to see the connection between numbers, with each piece containing one hole more than the previous one. It complements children's strong sense of pattern and allows them to understand how each number has a connection with other numbers. This approach has been shown to enable KS1 and KS2 children to develop mathematical concepts. Can be used flexibly alongside your existing resources, as a complete maths programme or to encourage mastery As well as helping your child develop their numeracy skills, Numicon at home is also a great way to support them during times of stress or difficulty. It's a safe environment where they can explore their feelings and work through problems without judgement.

Fantastic as a general numeracy aid, this touch maths number line resource is an absolute must for a wide range of many maths activities. Used in one-on-one or small group intervention, Breaking Barriers is aimed at children who need to revisit content or have individual programmes based on earlier Key Stage 1 content. Through Numicon ten-shape pattern, children can explore a number of different ways to add numbers to make ten. Children can use printable Numicon Shape Cut-Outs or concrete Numicon Shapes. Numicon ten-shape pattern is also useful for place value activities. Based on a concrete-pictorial-abstract approach, Numicon uses structured imagery and apparatus to help children explore and understand mathematical concepts. For another fun, practical, and sensory activity to use with your year 2 children to assist them in using number lines, you can take your children outdoors. You can then draw a big number line on the ground using chalk in the playground at school, or even on your driveway at home. Next, ask the children to compare, add, and subtract the numbers that you call out, and get them to do this by jumping on the numbers on the ground. This makes for a fun-filled, and engaging activity, and a way to reinforce using number lines in a practical way!

Benefits of these Numicon posters:

Encourage your child to explain what is happening using mathematical language – the difference between, smaller than, leaves, equals , and so on .

Of course, using this great touch maths number line teaching resource is a perfect way to help children learn number lines. But there are other ways to engage your key stage 1 children in their learning of number lines, too. Touch maths is a multi-sensory approach to aid children in learning maths. It is a more hands-on method of learning, that is great for children that tend to learn better by seeing things visually. If you found counting with Numicons from one to ten helpful, then an abacus may work really well, too.

An alternative to Numicon?

Numicon...gives numeracy, which is a completely abstract concept to children with special needs, a tangible object to relate to what a number is." These Numicon Shapes and Numerals Matching Cards are a great way to teach younger children about numbers. They're ideal for helping them develop number recognition skills and are a fun way to practice counting up to 20. Later on, your child will be able to see more complex mathematical ideas, like how two fours make eight, three twos make six, and so on. This lays the foundation for their understanding of number all the way through school. Numicon is an approach to teaching maths that helps your child to see connections between numbers. From Oxford University Press, it supports your child as they learn early maths skills in nursery and primary school. It is a multi-sensory way of learning, which means your child learns by seeing and feeling.

Numicon six-shape pattern has holes in it that can be broken apart or joined together to demonstrate shapes or numbers. Teachers can use numicon 6 illustrations in their classroom using software, and they can create their unique classroom resources. To support children’s learning, numicon 6 can be used in the form of prompt cards, posters, worksheets and illustration. On top of these quite formal activities, you can also teach your child about adding and taking away through conversation, books, play, and songs. My little girl loves singing along to the songs in the Numicon At Home kit and holding up her fingers to count along! We have tried to make these songs part of her bedtime routine to help her get used to counting. Numicon is an effective way to teach maths that helps children to see the relationship between numbers. As a creation of Oxford University Press, Numicon helps children as they are taught early maths skills in primary school and nursery. It involves a multi-sensory approach to learn. Hence, children can learn by both feeling and seeing (extended cognition). You can find our full range of Numicon Shape resources and activities here. Why use these Numicon Shapes and Numerals Matching Cards? Have fun with your child by playing the games in this kit together and help them to thrive at the maths they’re learning in school. Designed to work both brilliantly on its own and as a natural progression from the First Steps Kit, the activities and apparatus here will build your child’s understanding of numbers to 100 and their ability to use and talk about them with confidence.Breaking Barriers is a teaching programme thatsupports children aged seven onwards who experience particular difficulties learning maths, including those with special educational needs such as SpLD, dyslexia and dyscalculia. The other way to explore subtraction with Numicon is by taking away part of a shape. For example, you could: Numicon Shape Number Representation and Formation 11 to 20 Activity - Once your children are comfortable counting from one to ten, try out this activity. Comes in plenty of different versions to suit your needs.

Numicon Shapes Number Bonds of 10 Worksheet - The Numicon Shapes are a very flexible maths tool.
