The characters are likeable and relatable and do well to represent the underlying message in the story that it's good to be different, that different doesn't necessarily mean bad and we should infact embrace this. I did feel that it was a bit odd that only Lucy and her friend Norman seemed to be responsible kids. I'd reccomend it for any young reader who loves a good scary story (but obviously not that scary because it is a children's book after all). Soon, she discovers that there are creatures appearing in her room at night - and wonders if they are perhaps responsible for taking the grown-ups.

This was an endearing story about making new friends, having faith in yourself, and doing what was right. We would recommend this book to 7-9-year-olds, who like humorous adventure stories with a hint of eeriness. He is also a music-making, song-writing, guitar-playing, Guinness World Record-holding, nappy changing, galaxy-defending dad! A mysterious note on the school gates says that they are gone forever, but Lucy is convinced that this isn't true, and her suspicions are confirmed when she discovers monsters under her bed!Although, I would have liked her to play more of a key role than just the annoying younger one that always tags along. I really loved that the book had an underlying message of the importance and usefulness of recycling and being sustainable with our waste. Lucy and her friends must come up with a cunning plan to rescue the grown-ups, but if the stinky Creakers have anything to do with it, it’s not going to be easy! As well as his career as an author, by the age of 21, Tom had penned 10 UK number 1 singles and is the founding member of the band McFLY.

I was thrilled by the cameo from William and Brenda, but I wanted to hear more from them and maybe even Bob and Pamela too. The Christmasaurus will always have my heart, but The Creakers is a strong follow-up novel with an incredible heroine falling into and a scary, fun and heartwarming adventure, guaranteed to make kids look forward to bedtime. This is fun at first, but when children are free to run wild someone needs to step up, an unlikely hero and thats when Lucy discovers the Creakers under her bed. The values of looking after the environment and living and working in harmony with those who aren’t like us are emphasised, challenging readers to think about the world around them brilliantly.

Initially my seven year old grandson was frightened by the thought of monsters under the bed and wanted to abandon the book. I loved the little nods to characters in his other books and the foreshadowing had me giggling away. Lucy teams up with Norman Quirk, a smart and organized boy with multiple scout badges, to formulate a plan to rescue their parents.
