There’s a lot of appreciable depth and excellent, deep, strong bass response noticeable throughout the movie as well. Those with digital libraries, the currently on sale iTunes version is 95% of the quality and content (and in some cases more than 100% of the quality…and I’m an accountant! Each of these segments is too short for any real info to come across, but the enthusiasm and love for the film and comedy are infectious. Taken together, there’s plenty of interesting material contained in those two true stories that could be used to craft a genuinely fascinating feature film—and that’s not even including some of the bizarre ancillary stories surrounding what came to be known as the “Bluegrass Conspiracy. Set to a decent score by Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo fame, the movie, from a script by Jimmy Warden, does initially provide a pretty decent mix of goofy humor and comedic splatstick style gore, but the CGI effects used to bring the bear to life are never convincing enough to create and real tension. That nugget of truth sent filmmaker Elizabeth Banks on a bender of creativity that follows a bunch of characters crossing paths with a giant black bear on cocaine, whose goal is only more cocaine.

like Disney's 4K disc releases, digital versions of the film come with a Dolby Vision grade to compliment their HDR10 base layer and no matter how great the image currently looks - and it does look very, very good - it's difficult not to wonder if the inclusion of the alternative HDR grade wouldn't have added just that last little bit of sparkle.

There’s the meme-worthy side of “Cocaine Bear,” with certain filmgoers drawn to the feature due to its eye-catching title and outrageous premise, following the destructive path of a bear zonked out on drugs found at a state park. Thornton II, a particularly colorful character who had earned a Purple Heart during the Sixties as a paratrooper in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, before eventually became a member of the Lexington Police Department’s narcotics squad during the Seventies. There’s character actress Margo Martindale as the gruff, no-nonsense park warden, Isaiah Whitlock Jr as the deadpan detective hunting the cocaine, and Alden Erhenreich as the newly widowed gangster sent to retrieve the cocaine – he also gets perhaps the funniest line reading in the entire film.

mix, although there’s little doubt where the overhead channels would have been utilized for Atmos, such as a moment when the bear gets onto the roof of the ranger station. They do unnecessarily explain a few of the jokes, and Handelman is guilty of making the standard but equally unnecessary warning about spoilers (although Banks corrects him on that score), but it’s still a commentary that’s well worth a listen, even if you’re not a fan of the film. There’s some very minor crush in a few of the darker scenes towards the end of the movie but otherwise, high marks all around.
