Steppes are usually characterized by a semi-arid or continental [ citation needed] climate. Extremes can be recorded in the summer of up to 45°C (115°F) and in winter of down to −55°C (−65°F). Besides this major seasonal difference, fluctuations between day and night are also very great. In both the highlands of Mongolia and northern Nevada, 30°C (85°F) can be reached during the day with sub-freezing readings at night.

For example, Allan (1946) provides fifty-four definitions of this term. Stamp and Clark (1979) define steppes as 'mid-latitude areas dominated by herbaceous vegetation and termed locally steppes, prairies, pampas, high veldts, downland, etc.' The “clever” in this sleeping bag’s name refers to the innovative and useful features, including a pushchair belt opening for easily strapping the baby in while wearing the sleeping bag, adjustable arm openings, and a two-way zip that opens from the top or bottom to allow for easy changes. Closing If you’re using a sleeping bag that has a tog rating at the higher end of the suggested temperature range, then it won’t be necessary to put your baby in anything other than a vest. However, for temperatures below 18°C, a long-sleeved romper can be worn. A zip is also less fiddly than buttons or poppers – although it might prove more difficult to locate the zip connections in the dark, in the middle of the night, where buttons are easier to do up blindly.
