About this deal

I’m far from objective when discussing this movie, as Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all time. I’ve watched it scores of times over the years, starting with a beloved VHS copy, which is now lost to time. I recently re-read the Michael Crichton book for the first time in decades (it’s quite different from the movie in many parts, but it’s still a great read). Even so, most filmgoers will probably agree this movie has carved out its spot in film history as one of the all-time greats. Attenborough), coerces several individuals -- paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and chaos Based on the novel by Michael Crichton, Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park tells the story of a group of scientists (played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum) who are invited to preview a new theme park on an island near Costa Rica by the billionaire philanthropist John Hammond (Richard Attenborough, brother of the famed naturalist David Attenborough). But this isn’t just any old theme park; using genetic technology and DNA found in insects trapped in amber for millions of years, Hammond and his team have filled this “Jurassic Park” with living, breathing dinosaurs. Joining the scientists on their tour are Hammond’s young grandchildren, who are eager to see Tyrannosaurs, Brontosaurs, and all the rest. And see them they will, because life will find a way… and it appears that Hammond and his team have forgotten Murphy’s Law. All right, with all of that context established, let’s look at the films in this box set one by one…

Generally speaking in terms of direct comparative differences, Jurassic Park's 2160p/HDR-10 presentation enjoys a tangible boost

Blu-ray, in texture and certainly in color. But it could have been so much more. Universal certainly didn't go to much, if any, effort to give the movie the

Now again, for the first three films (finished in 1993, 1997, and 2001, respectively) the visual effects resolution was sub 2K and often 1K. As such, short of extraordinary efforts (specifically, completely re-doing all of the visual effects in native 4K resolution – which has not happened here), those shots are just not going to look as good as the rest of the film. Some of you may be wondering: Why not re-do all of the visual effects in native 4K resolution? There are a few reasons. Cost, for one (but that’s not as often the driver as you’d think). There’s also the fact that doing so would alter the original experience of the film… and keep in mind that the original Jurassic Park’s visual effects – primitive though they are by today’s standards – were revolutionary at the time. But often the biggest obstacle is simply this: It’s possible that many of the original digital animation files no longer exist. Either no one ever thought they’d be needed again so they weren’t saved, or they may have become corrupted (as can happen to magnetic media over time), or the surviving files may be incompatible with today’s rendering software. bit more organically textured. On the flip side, some shots are gorgeous. Rich colors, textural excellence, even and flattering grain…why the entire In addition to the movie Jurassic Park on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and digital, this collection includes the following items: There are no extras on the 4K disc itself, but the film is included in 1080p HD on Blu-ray as well. It’s not mastered from the new presentation, but is rather the exact same disc released previously. It includes the following extras (most produced for the original DVD release and so in SD): generally speaking they're sharper, not by any radical measure but it's usually easy to see added clarity in facial features, fine clothing details, terrain,

Jurassic Park III 4K Sound

Jurassic Park looks better than ever, and its color and contrast are strongly improved over the previous Blu-ray release, though it’s certainly not up to the level of most other films in 4K in terms of image detail. It does, however, deliver a damn great DTS:X audio experience, so there’s that. away on a small island that is soon to be home to what promises to be the world's greatest theme park: 'Jurassic Park,' a place populated by living, Jurassic Park needs no introduction, although it's difficult the believe it's been 25 years since its digital dinos ushered in a new era of VFX. Michael Crichton might have recycled Westworld for the theme-park-gone-wrong plot, but Steven Spielberg's assured direction resulted in a film as entertaining as it was astonishing.

However, in spite of all these narrative blunders, Jurassic Park Dominion still manages to be a decently amusing and fitting conclusion that falls in line with the previous two entries where the visual spectacle takes precedence over strong or even good storytelling. Although not as successfully accomplished as Trevorrow and his team aspired, the characters also contend with learning to live in harmony with the dinos rather than dominate or control unruly nature. But then again, much like everything else in this production, those sentiments largely feel just as obligatory and contrived as the appearance of paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and the still-suave mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), brought in ultimately as devices to incite the plot's central conceit about corporate greed and the ethical quandaries behind biotechnology. Even in its rather silly attempts to stoke the nostalgic heartstrings of the audience, the fifth sequel does close to nothing in elevating itself from being forgettable popcorn escapism. P.S. Apologies again for opening this Thread before an official announcement (and for such an heavy pictures loaded OP), but Universal already started announcing merchandise for the 30th Anniversary, which is where the logo on top of the Thread is from, and we know for a fact an announcement of this UHD edition is imminent. Unfortunately, the first sequel is proof that lightning rarely strikes twice, even for the likes of someone as highly-regarded as Steven Spielberg. The Lost World, which shares only a title with the novel by the late Michael Crichton, doesn't necessarily try to repeat the success of its predecessor, but it clearly wants to relive the same sense of wonder and exhilaration. It's doesn't quite succeed at capturing our imagination or sparking that same awe-inspiring level as the first movie, but that isn't to say it doesn't come close at times. Then again, there's really only one scene which comes to mind, involving a pair of T-Rexes, their newborn dino, a large, extended RV trailer and lots of loud crashing roars amid a rainstorm.clothes. The red, green, and yellow Ford Explorers that carry passengers through the park are particularly more pleasing to the eye, far less garish movie (minus the aged visual effects shots which unavoidably suffer at this resolution) cannot look as good as it does part of the time is a If you know "Valeyard", you know the chances of him being so forgiving and actually praising the person behind a 35mm scan are usually zero.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 4K is a significant upgrade over the previous Blu-ray edition and a worthy Ultra HD release in its own right. chapter 11, appear much darker and deeper, fine-tuned by the HDR-10 pass for a more absorbing atmosphere. Textures are a little more hit-or-miss minutes in. The shot is terribly pasty and it's actually a scene in which, minus the HDR color grading, the Blu-ray looks better: less flat and pasty, asabotages core systems in an effort to smuggle out dinosaur embryos for a large payout, the dinosaurs gain control of the park and put everyone, The new scan has revealed greater detail in the image, from skin texture and clothing weaves to jungle leaves and sodden earth. Since this is mainly a set based film, there is little scope for establishing landscape shots, but the opening scene contains a few really choice flyovers of the island which benefit greatly from the higher resolution. The included screenshots are sourced from a 1080p Blu-ray disc. Watch for 4K screenshots at a later date. After hearing/reading about what he had to say, how important " visual storytelling", " mood", " painting with light" and " subtract light from a scene" are to him, you might get the sense he's describing a completely different movie than what we watched in our homes for 30 years.
