About this deal

Write a persuasive letter to your family to ask them to get you a pet… or to your teacher asking for a class pet. In a nutshell: four-legged comedy capers| The starting point for David Baddiel’s new children’s book is a zany ‘what if’ scenario that sets up a very funny story of self-discovery. Malcolm is the only member of his family not to love animals (possibly due to an unpleasant experience with a monkey and its poo on a day out at the zoo), until a meeting with a mystic goat on the year six trip turns him into a series of different creatures, including tortoise, cat and pig. Will the experience change his view of animals? Bonkers as the situation is, much of the comedy derives from Baddiel’s sharp observations of ordinary life - the animals share lots of human characteristics – as well as his skill in setting up and delivering funny lines. Malcolm is a sympathetic character too, and readers will want to know what happens. ~ Andrea Reece This book is amazing and funny. Malcolm finds that sometimes the hardest thing is to become yourself. We cover cultural events, family days out, and eating out in Newcastle, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham, Teesside, as well as travel, short-breaks and holidays further afield.

I love this book it’d amazing. I especially love when he is different animals. I like all the characters . I would recommend it especially for people who like or love animals Summary: There is only way to truly understand animals – to become one. Wild and brilliantly funny, this will have children laughing out loud and pondering the merits of being an animal. Great fun and easy to read. Look at the use of speech within the text. Could you rewrite the story as a play? Could you perform the play to others? Almost all of the book is from Malcolm's POV, but we also see his Mum and the teacher's POV, I quite liked that those POVs were also added.

Because Malcolm is going to meet a goat that is very old, and may just be able to do magical things that will turn worlds upside down. The title of chapter five is ‘The Last Present’. Could you use this as the title for your own story?

I would like to thank whoever is responsible for the print in the book. The line spacing and font make it much easier to read, without being babyish or condescending. A real plus for any dyslexic or reluctant reader. Throughout the book you also see him change as he understands more and more about animals, as he makes friends with them, as he hears their stories, as he sees just what they do for him. This time no Parent Agencies, no Controllers that will control people/animals, oh no, this time we are experiencing what it is like to be an animal, and not just one, but quite a few of them.Stewart designs apps. He has his reasons, and I was nodding along, I could totally understand he may not be all that happy with animals. I understood his point that animals seemingly do nothing all day, just laze around, or do some weird animal thing. Of course, I am an animal fan myself, but I could still understand Malcolm's reasoning. David Lionel Baddiel is an English comedian, novelist and television presenter. As a whole, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and can see it easily being a popular choice for children and could even provide some interesting discussion points. Later on the book gets even more excited as a race against time starts and Malcolm has to ask all his friends to help him out. I enjoyed this book because Malcom is a good character. He really doesn't like animals and goes on a school trip to a farm!Malcolm simply can't understand his family's obsession with animals. A house full of pets and weekly trips to the zoo hold absolutely no appeal for him, but what he really would like is a shiny, new laptop for his birthday.
