About this deal

Makita DHP458Z 18V LXT Cordless Combi Drill Please Enquire Makita DHP453Z 18v LXT Combi Drill Please Enquire Makita DC18RD 18V LXT 14. The Makita DHP458Z has a robust metal keyless chuck, as well as a handle base with a battery charge indicator that has 4 led lights that show the amount of charge left in the battery at the push of a button. It's light, fast, fairly powerful, it'll drive a 1" self feed auger bit through softwood quite easily on speed one anyway. Although they differ in specs, they have the same drilling capacity in wood (38 mm), Masonry (13 mm) and Steel (13 mm). These bits can tackle a variety of drilling applications, so you have more options as to how you approach your work.

This drill is slightly larger than many other cordless drills, but it is a solid and powerful drill and as such can be a bit heavy or a bit powerful for some beginners, but for anyone else this is a great addition to the toolbox. Not full time every day which in my view is where the brushless 481 motor is probably the better option. With an extremely compact size and an overall length of 225mm (8-7/8"), you can work in tight places. Thinking whatever to get the dhp481 or try to stretch out my dying 458 a little bit more in hopes makita releases something new very soon. When using 5Ah batteries on site, for example, one battery will usually last most of the day on site unless drilling larger holes through joist sized timbers.

I watched a video where they compared the latest brushless drills from all makes ,and sadly the makita wasn't really on top. Perhaps one last question from me - I have the option of higher torque brushed motor versus lower torque brushless motor on the Makita - I have zero experience with the BL motors. The Makita DHP458Z has a brushed motor and a 2 speed metal gearbox selectable via a slide switch on the top of the drill.

Yup the 458 drains batteries rather fast, Don't think I can even mix 3batches of plaster when 4ah battery is already drained, but other than that I have had no complains. The Makita DHP458 features the heavy duty LXT motor, all metal 2 speed gearbox and steel keyless chuck. Powered by an 18V LXT slide type battery, with variable speed control and 2 mechanical gears, for a wide range of drilling, fastening and hammer drilling applications. The Makita DHP458Z themselves will often be sold ‘naked’ or 'body only', which means that the battery and charger are not included. Both are excellent combi drills, but you may be wondering what is the difference between Makita DHP484 and DHP485? The safety clutch works well which prevents the drill spinning out of your hand if the drill snags when using cutters such as a hole saw.
