About this deal

Design-wise, whilst at first glance the two look very similar, if you look more closely, you can see subtle redesign changes, such as changing the squared corners you find on the RG353M and making them more rounded. I did find that this allowed the RG405M to be slightly more comfortable to hold for extended play sessions. The IPS panel has an inconsistent brightness when viewed from different angles, making it feel lower quality. I know this is typically normal from IPS panels, but it’s just something I dislike about this one. SafetyNet fix, present as Pixel phone: for fixing TMNT etc (Activated by toggling Magisk > Settings > Enable Zygote and reboot your device). Ignore any warning about additional setup required, this is a false flag. Magisk is working fine.

It is possible to use an alternative OS (GammaOS on Github) for a more polished experience, which I do. Ultimately, with a dozen different apps required to take care of your emulation needs on Android, I recommend installing a good emulation frontend to help organize everything into a single, easy to use interface. As we can see in the reveal video just posted by Anbernic, the RG405V is now a real device in-hand. Meaning that these things are already produced and should be for sale soon. There are also streaming apps included within the Android 12 OS, but to be honest, due to the size of the screen, I probably wouldn’t recommend using them. I found button registering issues with Xbox gaming, which makes it unplayable at the moment. For me the RG405M is a retro gaming device, and if you use it as such, then you won’t be disappointed. Precio y disponibilidad de la consola Anbernic RG405M Skyline is no longer in development so for now you get what you see. Don’t expect any new updates to come to fix issues or improve compatibility for this device. Regarding performance, the Anbernic RG405M will fare similar to the previously-released RG505 as they both sport the Unisoc Tiger T618 chip. In fact, the RG405M can more accurately be described as an incremental upgrade over the RG505 with a new layout, a metal shell and no front-facing Anbernic logo.

The RG405M also does not have a powerful enough chipset to emulate the entire 3DS library. In fact, most of the games will struggle but there are definitely some playable games here. v1.3.2) Fix issue with provisioning script for GammaOS, ensuring that the first boot inits everything before allowing setup. Slightly longer first boot, but no issues later.

As this device runs on Android 12, Android games like Deadcells and the Android port of Portal play decently. Like the other Android-based Anbernic systems, the RG405M also has the handy feature to map the device’s physical keys to touch controls. This is useful for Android games that don’t natively support controllers like Genshin Impact; and I’m personally in favour of playing games with actual hardware keys over a touchscreen. In the hand the RG405M is a solid device, it’s comfortable, smooth, has superb build quality due to the metal shell which is resistant to scuffs, drops and maybe even bullets and it you can feel that, because it weighs around 250g which isn’t far off a Nintendo Switch… so don’t go dropping it on your toes. You can find a build without ads and with Daijisho fronend compatibility if you look for AetherSX2 build 13930 v1.5-3668 release. There is a link pinned in the Retro Handhelds discord #odin_base_pro channel

Daijisho launcher as front-end, pre-configured with RetroArch for some systems. (Optimized settings for GB,GBC,GBA,NES,SNES,Genesis,PSX) (BIOS files need to be supplied by you). v1.1 Lite) Initial release for GammaOS Lite, super debloated build with no GSF. Extra tweaks made for additional performance, using Retroid GPU drivers. But did they really have to go that far out with the design? They really went way out of their usual realm with this one. v1.2) Add fix for L2/R2 issue, using my own code https://github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/retrogame_joypad_2_xboxYou can’t really go wrong with either device and so it will really come down to your preference and play style. Where to buy the RG405M

I’m actually going to be comparing the RG405M against the RG353M for the purposes of this review, only because they do have a lot in common, but as you will read, the RG405M is also quite a step up from the RG353M. Other than the key files, there is not much tweaking to be done here. I suggest just using the basic setting then booting up games to see if they work or not. Emulation on an Android device unfortunately does not have a one stop shop solution. Each emulated system will have its own app which is sometimes available via the Google Play Store and sometimes available only to be sideloaded. Additionally, each app will have its own setup, settings, and interface.

But as we can see in the new RG405V, Anbernic has attempted some pretty unusual shapes in an attempt to achieve “ergonomics”. To me, it just looks… wrong. The same company who had a good thing going for them in devices like the RG350P, RG351MP, RG351V, RG353M, RG353P, RG405M. So many great devices with fantastic design. You will now see the fastbootd menu, with the red fastbootd text at the top of the screen on your RG405M/RG505. The RG405M is capable of emulating some PS2 games but don’t expect to be able to emulate everything. You’ll really need to test and tinker with the settings on an individual game level to get the most out of PS2 emulation on the RG405M. To make emulation a tiny bit easier, I recommend that you use PAL (European) versions of games as they only need to emulate up to 50fps at full speed.
