About this deal

A bittersweet coda to the most enduring partnership in all of pop. 18. Now and Then (Number 1, 2023) We’ll let you know if your current broadband plan is available there. Or if you want to change your plan, we can sort that out too. The Fab Four overtake Elvis Presley, who had 47 years and 6 months between ‘All Shook Up’ (1957) and a posthumous reissue of ‘It’s Now or Never’ (2005).

Olivia Rodrigo continues her 2023 chart domination with Can’t Catch Me Now, lifted from Music From & Inspired By The Hunger Games: The Ballads of Songbirds & Snakes (18). It’s Olivia’s 11th Top 40 single in the UK. The whole turn of events must’ve been baffling for Ritchie Cordell. In Fred Bronson’s Billboard Book Of Number 1 Hits, Cordell says that Tiffany’s version of “I Think We’re Alone Now”“was very foreign to me. It just wasn’t the same song. All I can say is I don’t argue with #1 records.” Maybe Cordell didn’t understand what had happened with his own song, but its success makes sense. Never appeared on any of the numbered NOW albums but did appear on Now 1983 in the 10th Anniversary Series. [1] [4] On 10 November 2023, The Beatles made a record-breaking return to Number 1 on the UK's Official Singles Chart with Now And Then, setting a new record for the longest time span between an artist's first and last Number 1. Now And Then reached the top of the Official Chart 60 years and 6 months after The Beatles' First Number 1 - From Me To You in May 1963.

The Beatles set multiple chart records:

In his memoir, Tommy James wrote that “I Think We’re Alone” came from Ritchie Cordell and his writing partner Bo Gentry, but Gentry was under contract to another label, so Levy decided that Cordell would get sole writer credit even though the two writers would split the royalties. Cordell and Gentry brought the song to Tommy James And The Shondells, the teenage garage band who’d taken “ Hanky Panky” to #1 in 1966. James recorded the song with the Shondells in 1967, when James was 19. The band sped the song up, and James sang it with a horny sort of desperation. James later wrote, “Without realizing it, we invented ‘bubblegum’ music.”

Having been released six days into the Official Chart week and with just ten hours of sales counting toward its weekly total, on Friday 3 November 2023 Now And Then still managed to debut at Number 42 on the UK's Official Singles Chart. 48 hours later on the Official Charts First Look bulletin for the new chart week, Now And Then had catapulted out in front in the midweeks, with Official Charts reporting that The Beatles were on course to claim their first UK Number 1 single in 54 years. 5. A Hard Day's Night (Number 1, July 1964)

As it reached Number 1, it helped The Beatles extend their lead as the British act with the most Number 1 singles in UK chart history, as well as the longest-gap between Number 1 singles (54 years) and the longest span of Number 1 singles (60 years from their first to their last). It is not updated continuously. Lady Madonna marked a return to a more conventional approach to song style and structure for The Beatles, following their most experimental period. Lady Madonna was also the last record in the UK released by The Beatles long-time label Parlophone, subsequent releases would come from their own record label, Apple, via a deal with EMI. Revisit the chart the week Lady Madonna claimed Number 1. 15. Hey Jude (Number 1, March 1968) Rescued from an abandoned John Lennon demo in the 70s and partially reconstructed by the remaining members in the 90s, Now And Then came to life thanks in part to AI technology and a celebration of The Beatles’ all-encompassing legacy.
