Richard Williams is one of the founders and treasurer of The National Chrysanthemum Society of South Africa, he says. He is also the secretary and show-secretary of the Pniel Horticultural and Industrial Society. A show-secretary organises the flower shows. PHOTO: Joel Ontong In this category the florets curve downward. The tops of the bloom have a somewhat flattened appearance when they are fully open. Some people describe the flowers as having a mop-like appearance. Others say that the way the florets tend to overlap make the flower look like plumage on a bird. These flowers are not as large as Irregular Incurve but they can still span 4 to 6 inches in diameter. Class 3- Regular Incurve

Mentoor has won numerous flower shows and speaks from 57 years of experience, he says. However, he was not always the ‘king of chrysanthemums’, he says. To earn the title, he had to learn from his mistakes. In ways like these, the growers help each other improve their craft, says Bernard Mentoor, who is part of PHIS and has been dubbed ‘the king of chrysanthemums’ by some growers. “We always help each other,” he says. Therefore, a good grower should be open to listening to other growers and be willing to learn, according to Mentoor. Chrysanthemum growers are serious about their craft because they are usually very experienced and knowledgeable, says Williams.

Nazeer MA (1981) Karyological studies in two species of Chrysanthemum L. Cell Chrom Newslett 4(2):33–35 To grow a prize-winning chrysanthemum requires knowing how to mix soil with the correct ratio of minerals and when to add or subtract certain minerals, says Mentoor. Growers must also be keenly aware of the weather and its effects on the flower, he adds. It looks very similar to Semi-Double except for the fact that the ray florets (outer petals) look like spoons. Class 10 - QuillRosse A (1964) The Chrysanthemum book. D. Van Nostrand Company, Inc, Princeton/Toronto/New York/London The autumn-flowering garden Chrysanthemum ( C. morifolium Ramat.) is an important flower crop throughout the world. It has earned tremendous popularity as a flower for the garden and as a cut flower for interior decoration or for greenhouse or conservatory display. The genus constitutes a large polyploid complex ranging from 2x to 22x, besides a number of aneuploids. The genetic diversity of chrysanthemum plays a very important role in developing new and novel desired forms through breeding and selection. All the present-day colorful varieties have been developed through complex interspecific crosses among elemental species, open pollination, indiscriminate intervarietal hybridization, spontaneous and induced mutation, and selection and management of chimera. The possibilities for creating different forms and improving chrysanthemum are infinite, and a breeder will always have future goals to work toward. This chapter will provide maximum information generated in India on different aspects along with important publications. Keywords Chittenden FJ (1951) The Royal Horticultural Society. The National Chrysanthemum Society of South Africa (NCSSA) was founded in 2003, according to Richard Williams, treasurer of the NCSSA. Though the club initially only had members from the Western Cape, they hoped that other provinces would also participate in competitive chrysanthemum growing, he says. This popular class is smaller than the Irregular Incurve, with shorter, partially incurving florets and a more open appearance. It looks like a hybrid between Irregular Incurve and Regular Incurve.
