About this deal

Select a character – what do you want to know about your character and their behaviour? Write questions to use during hot seating. His heart was pounding against his ribcage, and his blood was throbbing between his ears.’ What do you learn about Shylo? When a poison tide flowing across the ocean threatens their island, Roz works with the resident creatures to ensure that they will have clean water, but the destruction of vegetation and crowding of habitats jeopardize everyone’s survival. Brown’s tale of environmental depredation and turmoil is by turns poignant, graceful, endearing, and inspiring, with his (mostly) gentle robot protagonist at its heart. Though Roz is different from the creatures she lives with or encounters—including her son, Brightbill the goose, and his new mate, Glimmerwing—she makes connections through her versatile communication abilities and her desire to understand and help others. When Roz accidentally discovers that the replacement body given to her by Dr. Molovo is waterproof, she sets out to seek help and discovers the human-engineered source of the toxic tide. Brown’s rich descriptions of undersea landscapes, entertaining conversations between Roz and wild creatures, and concise yet powerful explanations of the effect of the poison tide on the ecology of the island are superb. Simple, spare illustrations offer just enough glimpses of Roz and her surroundings to spark the imagination. The climactic confrontation pits oceangoing mammals, seabirds, fish, and even zooplankton against hardware and technology in a nicely choreographed battle. But it is Roz’s heroism and peacemaking that save the day. How is your character seen by the other characters in the book? This activity explores the relationships that develop between the different characters. Predicament When last we saw Shylo Tawny-Tail, a shy country bunny, he had just helped the Royal Rabbits of London save the Queen from a most humiliating experience, devised by the evil Ratzis. The RRL’s were so grateful and impressed that he was made a member of the secret society, complete with their badge imprinted on his paw.

And although this book was just as amusing as the first book in the series, I want to start this review with saying that for me something was missing. The first book truly was about this small rabbit, laughed at and bullied, who had to untangle a huge mess and become a hero. And it was a very cute and empowering story. In this book there is so much attention for all the other characters, that it's sometime as if Shylo isn't the centre of the universe anymore. And I understand he's not, but I'd love him to be.

Creative Play

But, apart from that I did enjoy reading this book a lot! I love the wonderful world of the Royal Rabbits and the American Rabbits and the Foxes and the Rats. I love how the Corgi's are incorporated in the story, even though they're not the main characters. I love how fascinating and almost magical this world is and how it's not even that unthinkable that this is going on right under our noses while we have no idea. Do not use all the questions but select the most appropriate to provide opportunities for quality discussion. The questions are intended to encourage the children to think deeply about the text. At all stages invite all the children to make contributions – ones which can be added to. Avoid asking the children too many closed questions as this stops children from thinking. What is your first impression of the character? What makes you think this? Invite the children to make comments about external features (what they look like) and character traits. As the story develops, ask the children if they still agree with their first impression. Encourage the children to update their response. Name of character A successful juvenile by the beloved New Yorker writer portrays a farm episode with an imaginative twist that makes a poignant, humorous story of a pig, a spider and a little girl.

Select 2 characters and produce a short comic strip which shows how the two characters would interact with each other. Role Play At any point during the story select a character and thought shower the character’s fears, interests and relationships.Santa Montefioren ja Simon Sebag Montefioren yhdessä kirjoittama "Lontoon kuninkaalliset kanit" (Sitruuna, 2018) aloittaa uuden lastenkirjasarjan, josta on ilmeisesti tulossa lähiaikoina myös elokuvasovitus. Jälkimmäinen Montefiore on tullut minulle tutuksi aiemmin tänä vuonna lukemieni Stalin-elämäkertojen kautta. After closing the first book in this series, a few weeks ago, I wanted more. I fell in love with the little brave rabbit Shylo and with the wonderful world Montefiore crafted. Unfortunately the next books weren't translated in Dutch, so I had to get the English ones. (No problem at all, but if I had known that I might have gotten the first one in English too!) Readers learn more about the Ratzis, especially Papa Ratzi who controls this revolting gang of very large, very stinky two hundred rats. No one has ever seen him and he communicates via hologram texts. Robot Roz undertakes an unusual ocean journey to save her adopted island home in this third series entry.

What does the author’s choice of the word ‘hesitant’ tell you about the rabbit who is visiting Horatio? The Royal Rabbits of London have a proud history of protecting the royal family and now the secret society need to leap into action to stop the Ratzis… But can a rabbit as feeble and shy as Shylo convince them that the Queen is in danger? The three way chats, in which they are joined by other animals, about web spinning, themselves, other humans—are as often informative as amusing, and the whole tenor of appealing wit and pathos will make fine entertainment for reading aloud, too. Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH meets Warriors in this charming novel that proves that even the smallest rabbit can be the biggest hero from publishing power couple Santa and Simon Sebag Montefiore.
