The unit came with the time and date already set, it had also been programmed, so it was ready to go. Is the Installer set-up programme for the ST9400A programmer always available to change parameters, even after set-up was completed a couple of years back, or is it a one time setting following a new installation ? It is simple to use but still allows heating and hot water to be set at different times from each other. The ST9400A has a large backlit LoT display which provides text feedback with help and programming hints as well as automatic summer/winter 1 hour change and a choice of 3 different built in programmes. Just one niggle, when the display is lit by a clear blue sky during the day the display shows dark patches.The heating and hot water programmes are completely independent to allow the system to be operated in the most energy efficient manner possible. When I got around to checking the programming, I found that the pre installed settings were very sensible and similar to what I would nomally use.

All ST9400 models incorporate the Line of Text (LoT) display that gives clear plain English instructions whenever any button or slider is used. I set my Hot Water and Central Heating to come on for a couple of hours in the morning, and again in the late afternoon, the Hot Water goes off early evening, and the Central Heating turned off late in the evening. In the evening, when the house is up to temperature, it is often possible to switch off the heating up to an hour before you go to bed, without any noticeable reduction in comfort.
