About this deal

You aren’t going to save the world overnight, but you might as well be part of the solution and not the problem. When you travel to some of the world’s most remote places, you come to realise the full extent of the plastic problem. And I hope you become more inspired to continue being a responsible traveller. Local wines and Prosecco only cost around €1- €3 per glass. In fact, wine gets its name ombra, meaning shade, for the act of hiding in the shade with a drink during lunch. Nightlife in Venice There are plenty of epic things to do in Venice, we’ve cleared that much already! Now, we’ve prepared a few extra tips so you can make the most out of your trip: They're pretty much the best hostel chain in Europe and their dorm is relatively cheap (if you're keen on a dorm). Be sure to snap a picture of the incredible glass sculpture that sits outside of the museum! Day 2 / Stop 2 – Visit San Sebastiano

The stunning Rialto bridge is also free to enjoy, although you'll need to fight through the hoards of tourists and pesky touts to take in its real beauty. OR you could do what we did and get up early, and have it to yourself.Venetian cuisine relies heavily on polenta, seafood, and tomato sauces – quite different from northern Italian cuisine. Baccala’ Mantecata, or salted cod, is one of the most famous Venice dishes; it’s widely available at local restaurants. Also look for marinated sardines (sarde in saor) and risi i bisi (fresh rice and green beans) as other local staples.Read more of our strategies for Eating and Drinking in Europe on a Budget. Budget Breakfast Prices in Venice: €3-€8 It’s day two and there’s still a whole lot more to see and do in Venice!Start your day off touring the glass museum and a beautiful basilica. You’ll then make your way to the lace museum, where you’ll learn the history of this great fabric, before heading to a modern Venetian hotel that stands out from the rest! Finish off your day at the Bridge of Sighs and learn about its historical significance. Here’s what you should be adding to your Venice itinerary! Day 2 / Stop 1 – Take a Trip to The Murano Glass Museum You’ll have to actively seek out budget restaurants because the food is fairly expensive—so, if you’re not careful, it’s easy to spend way more than you probably want. Note: Anything around St. Marks Square (Piazza San Marco) is going to be crazy expensive. Today, the Ghetto is still a center of Jewish life, located in the area of Cannaregio. Visit the square of campo del Ghetto Nuovo and take a guided tour of Museo Ebraicofor a sense of the hardships of former life here. 8. Basilica di Santa Maria Della Salute World famous, the Bell Tower has inspired renditions in places like The Venetian of Las Vegas and Epcot at Walt Disney World. One of the most recognizable symbols of Venice, Campanile di San Marco also offers bird’s eye views of the city and lagoon for€8. 7. Jewish Ghetto of Venice (Ghetto Ebraico di Venezia)

Camping Rialto is cheap and only 10 minutes from Venice by bus. Basic facilities such as toilets and showers are included in the price, but there is no kitchen. However there is a cheap supermarket, Lidl, across the street. The only downside is that you have to pay €2.00 p.p. for 24 hours of WiFi, which is only available near the restaurant.

Things to considering when buying a backpack

Welcome to Venice. To get things started, we’re stopping off at Piazza San Marco, or St. Mark’s Square, an iconic square in the heart of downtown. See above! Walking really is the best way to get around Venice; get lost, roam free and best of all don't spend any money. Close to Venice, this island is the home of the famous Murano glassblowers, who have been creating intricate glassworks here since 1291. Although Murano is filled with expensive souvenirs (avoid buying anything on the island if you’re on a budget!), you can still have an educational and fun afternoon learning and watching how the glass is blown. The Murano Glass Factory only costs 5 EUR, which includes the glass blowing demonstration and guided tour of the factory. To get to Murano, you can take the ferry for 8 EUR. 5. Wander the Rialto Market

If you’re going to be missing the celebrations, this beautiful basilica is still worth a visit. The gorgeous architecture will astound you and make the visit worth every penny. Be sure to take a look inside – the attention to detail will blow you away. If you’re a history-lover, be sure not to give this activity a miss! Explore the Jewish Ghetto The first services leave around 5am so early birds can still catch the morning sunrise and if you decide to head home a little later in the evening, the last train leaves just after midnight. Food in Venice can be expensive, but you can get a decent meal without paying ridiculous amounts of money. Stay away from St Mark’s Square where you’ll pay a premium for sitting down at any of the cafés there and remember that anywhere with lots of tourists is likely to be more expensive. Avoid places with photos on the menu and venture into the quieter neighbourhoods to find good value restaurants. Consider booking your accommodation ahead of time as it will save you a lot of money and headaches. Venice isn’t one of those locations you can just arrive and find a cheap place to stay like Guatemala or Belize. Day Trips from Venice While most of the top things to do in Venice are world-famous activities, there are also plenty of exciting non-touristy things as well. This really is a destination that can appeal to everyone with its incredible blend of history, culture, adventure, and natural beauty. This is the million-dollar question, but you don’t worry, the answer isn’t a million dollars! For accommodation in a hostel dorm, expect to pay anywhere from €15 to €30 for a bed in a dorm room, maybe more in peak times. For a small fee, you can enter the San Sebastiano Basilica and see the great artwork of Renaissance artist – Paolo Tiepolo. Save Venice Inc, the company responsible for many architecture and art restorations all over the city, has recently restored Tiepolo’s ceiling mural! They’ve also spent just over 10 years restoring most of this beautiful church. Why it’s awesome: The Ponte di Rialto is the most famous of the 400 bridges that join the Venetian archipelago. Popular drinks include Spritz (Campari or Aperol mixed with Prosecco and seltzer), Veneto grappa, and Bellinis (white peach juice mixed with Prosecco) that were invented in Venice.
