Maybe it's because I'm more than a tad klutzy myself that I just felt pulled into this story about a town full of "Unluckies" who are downtrodden by the "Luckies". Have your students reflect on the ending of the story where Sadie decides to trade in a lucky rabbit's foot for a whole patch of 4 leaf clovers to help her friends. This book has the vibe of the Maze Runner and Tomorrow When the War Began but it is so much better (and I am a HUGE fan of both! I just know fans of the Tomorrow series will love this book and be eager for the rest of the series.But, she lost a lot of stuff, and then realized that she had it good it wasn’t bad luck that Cooper couldn’t hang out with her anymore, at least she got to hang out with him before, and stuff like that. As Sadie starts to ponder some of these questions, she begins to realize that she is in more control of her luck than she thought. It may be difficult for some readers to understand why Sadie is hesitant to leave her house when a black cat stands outside, for example.
