About this deal

The Vario and Sette are very compact burr grinders. The Vario is slightly larger, weighing 9 pounds and measuring 13 x 36 x 18 centimeters. But it’s a marginal difference – the Sette is 7 pounds and measures 13 x 40 x 24 centimeters. Neither of these machines will take up a ton of counter space in your kitchen. Build Quality and Design

So, each grind setting has a further 9 micro-adjustments from coarser to finer and represented by alphabets from A to H. The Baratza Sette 270wi is the first-ever home grinder offering grind-by-weight functionality directly into your portafilter or grounds bin. There are some other quite nice details on the grinder. For instance, the oversized grounds bin is made out of a very nice plastic material similar to the latest generation of the AeroPress. There’s just something nice about using it.At the end of the day, it means one thing: you can use them in your home without getting a headache. Dimensions

To make the arms wider or narrower to use the dosing cup or portafilter, simply press the arms into the machine while rotating. It has a mechanism to make both arms rotate the same. See the video below. Proprietary gear box (planetary + crown gear) that maximizes efficiency of torque transfer, resulting in lower power consumption and much less heat. The Sette has a macro/micro adjust for grind size, as well as three programmable settings for dosing. These combined features offer the user incredible repeatability. A built-in convertible holder allows you to grind directly into your portafilter, the supplied grounds bin, or most of the popular brewing devices (Hario, Clever, Able Kone) – a standout feature among all other home grinders. The vertically placed conical burrs allow very precise grinding, especially if you need a fine to extra fine grind size. Espresso and Turkish coffee lovers will find the Baratza Sette 270 a perfect grinder for their needs. A downside of this specialization in fine grinds is that this grinder doesn’t perform as well if you need a coarse grind. If you’re an extreme coffee enthusiast, you’ve likely already heard of Baratza. Founded in 1999 and now owned by the Breville Group, Baratza is known for innovative, high-quality, user-friendly coffee grinders, such as the Vario, the Forte, and the Estatto. Many of their grinders feature weight-based grinding and easy-to-use macro/micro-adjustments.In short, the Baratza Sette 30 is the overall winner of this comparison as it is a more value-for-money product. The conic shaped burrs container makes sure that all the coffee grounds will go through both burrs and in the bin or portafilter below. You don’t have to waste coffee by purging old grounds, basically. The Wi is intelligent. If, for example, the grinder’s target weight is 20g but only 19.6g are produced, the Wi will self-adjust. On the next grind, it will stop the motor just a little later. This might result in a slight overdose, but not to worry; the Wi keeps learning and within a few grinds will self-adjust so that it repeatedly doses within a few tenths of a gram! As we have already compared the Sette 30 and 270, here I’m going to add how Sette 270Wi is different in the lineup. Burst Mode: A common frustrating experience on the 270W is under-dosing. If a 270W stops short of its target dose, the user is unable to “top off” the grind without zeroing out weight readings. If the W i stops early, but within 5g of the target, it will enter Burst Mode. When in this mode, each press of the START button runs the motor for 0.1 second. This function can be used indefinitely until the portafilter is removed or the STOP button is pressed. Burst Mode allows the home barista to grind more coffee incrementally, ‘topping off’ from 16-19.8g up to 20g.

Sette 30 :The cheapest and most simple model of them all. It only has 30 grind settings, which makes it more challenging to adjust for the perfect espresso. However, if you’re using a lever machine or are not afraid of playing with dose and tamping pressure, this will work fine for espresso. It’s excellent for single-dosing and also has a pretty efficient time-based dosing that you can adjust down to a tenth of a second. It also has a more basic portafilter holder compared to the two other models. I wouldn’t recommend the 270Wi if you don’t make espresso. The 270Wi has unnecessary features for pour-over or French press. There are more affordable options for those brewers, like the Sette 30 or Fellow Opus. The Vario and the Sette are excellent grinders for your cafe or home setup. Since they’re so similar in price, the choice will depend on your specific needs and preferences. The 270Wi and 270 are two specific models you may be interested in. In this Baratza Sette 270Wi vs 270 comparison, we’ll take a deep dive into the following topics:

However, those who are particularly experienced with espresso and want to guarantee consistent flavor time and time again would probably do better with the 270Wi. Its weight-based grinding system is better for accuracy. So if you see a Baratza Sette for sale second-hand, it’s often mentioned that the gearbox has been replaced under warranty.
