About this deal

It is a great first phone for students. Its long-life battery is perfect for long times between charges, and its 2-year warranty tops many well-known brands. Screen – bright and colour accurate Size The OPPO A16s 4G is a good, honest, phone that will give you years of service. What more can you ask for> Competition (HD screen and 4/64GB unless noted) The Oppo A16s is just about as generic a smartphone design as you’re likely to find. At 163.8 x 75.6 x 8.4mm, its dimensions are far from compact, but it sits easily in the hand. Not surprisingly, there’s no IP rating included with the A16s, so you’ll want to keep it well away from water and dusty environments.

The OPPO A16s’ rear camera has 13 MP and 2 MP (Macro) and 2 MP (Depth). The camera takes 13 MP images by default. The front camera is 8 MP. Credit where it’s due, though: this is a genuine two-dayer, even if you’re a bit of a media hound. This is driven home by the fact that an hour of Netflix streaming sapped just 4% of a full charge, while an hour of music streaming didn’t even manage to drop the figure a single percentage point. Direct sunlight use (with any LCD screen) is poor, but this is brighter than most. There is no Pulse-width modulation (PWM), so it is OK for sensitive eyes. Processor – fit for purpose SoC Applies to calls made in in the UK and when roaming in our Europe Zone to standard landlines and mobiles. Minute minimum charges apply 2. Text message With a resolution of 720 x 1600 (HD+), the Oppo A16s display falls short on sharpness, too. This manifests in everything from homescreen icons to Netflix streams, and especially with web content. There’s a general fuzziness to everything that you do on the Oppo A16s.

Triple Camera: 13 MP, f/2.2, 26mm (wide), 1/3.06", PDAF + 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro) + 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth), LED Flash We issue a strong warning that you must buy a genuine model with Australian firmware. Read Don’t buy a grey market phone to ensure you get the Australian model. Bluetooth drove our reference Sony WH-1000xM4 in SBC, AAC and LDAC modes and provided good clear sound and plenty of volume.

Super Power Saving Mode’s standby time simulates six applications selected and running in Super Power Saving Mode. Individual application standby times assume that no other apps are selected and/or running in Super Power Saving Mode. Oppo A16s mobile was launched in August 2021. The phone comes with a 6.52-inch touchscreen display offering a resolution of 720x1600 pixels at a pixel density of 269 pixels per inch (ppi) and an aspect ratio of 20:9. Oppo A16s is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G35 processor. It comes with 4GB of RAM. The Oppo A16s runs Android 11 and is powered by a 5000mAh battery. Daylight, outdoors (overcast day) 1x – good colour and balance 2x – good shot 5x – not too bad colour wise but loses definition Macro Macro is as good as can be expected from a 2MP GalaxyCore sensor. Take care with fixed focus – it is 4cm Indoors Office Light (400 lumens) Bokeh Excellent office light shots with good colour, dynamic range and low noise Low light (room <100 lumens) Night shot – no AI and its struggling AI Night mode really brings it up but at the expense of details and there is quite a lot of noise in the shot. Still quite acceptable. Selfie It compares to a Qualcomm SD450. It is in the OPPO A54s, Nokia G20, realme C11/12/15/21, Moto G Power and about 60 other models not sold here.x 720, 269ppi, 71% NTSC (about 95% sRGB), 480 nits (typical), 1500:1 contrast, 16.7m colours, SDR, 60Hz IPS LCD The Oppo A16s features a so-called triple camera system, which actually equates to a single 13-megapixel wide camera and two 2-megapixel assistants. The latter two handle depth and macro duties, which means there’s no ultra-wide or telephoto provision. It was an underwhelming chip in that phone – and, sure enough, the Oppo A16s doesn’t feel like a fast phone in the slightest. Scrolling between homescreens, pulling up menus, and hopping between multiple apps feels somewhat ponderous. In simulated tests of Super Nighttime Standby Mode, from 23:00 to 07:00, the Always-On Display only consumes about 1.21% battery over an 8-hour period. At best, LTE is available for mobile Internet access. The frequency equipment is decent, so there should not be any restrictions in Europe. The telephony features are good as long as the A16s is held to the ear and noise is not too loud, because the latter is only filtered out moderately. It does reverberate slightly in speaker mode, but the quality and microphone range are otherwise decent. VoLTE is supported.

Calls to 05, 08 and 07 special numbers including calls and texts to Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man landline or mobiles We said much the same thing about the Moto G22 recently, of course, but that phone at least has a 90Hz refresh rate compared to the A16s’s standard 60Hz. Within the context of such limited components and performance, however, Oppo’s choice was probably the right one. Unfortunately, I was unable to run the usual TR benchmark test, which entails running the 3DMark Wild Life stress test three times in a row (for an hour in total), since the MediaTek Helio G35 simply wasn’t up to the task. OPPO is now #2 in Australia for Android smartphone market share. It has achieved that by excellent product and after-sales service. You don’t get an app tray (by default) or Google Feed to the left of the homescreen, but that at least serves to drive home the simplicity of the offering. This is clearly a phone aimed at smartphone beginners, and they’re unlikely to get too lost here.

Expressed as -dBm (lower is better) and Femtowatts (fW) or picowatts (pW – 1000fW) where higher is better. Tower readings

Dazzling Mode is only supported on the 4GB+64GB version. Whether it is supported depends on the specific product version and country. It is part of the updated A-series, including the A54s, A54 5G, A74, A74 5G and A94 5G, where OPPO’s quality control and stress testing make the A-series keepers. It has excellent signal strength bit as is typical of MediaTek SoCs; it could not find adjacent towers. Sure enough, an average Geekbench 5 score of 166 single-core and 971 multi-core isn’t setting the world alight. Equally unsurprisingly, it’s about the same as the Moto G22 managed.Geomagnetic (e-Compass), Light sensor, Proximity sensor, combo Accelerometer/Gyroscope, Gravity sensor, Step counting function Meanwhile, since Oppo hasn’t thrown a surfeit of pixels at its one useful sensor, even 2x digital zoom crops don’t look very good here.
