All in all, this isn’t the optimal duffel for travel or light outdoor adventures, but it’s worth its weight in gold when you need real waterproof protection for your gear.

Osprey likely sacrificed some padding for added packing space, and we don’t mind since this is a pack designed for airline travel. The inside of the primary storage compartment features two buckled compression straps to keep your contents snuggly packed and includes a zippered mesh storage pocket on one end to keep smaller contents secure and organized. Because of this bags’ heavy duty design, it’s a match made in heaven for anyone who works outside and needs to carry gear (at least gear that isn’t too fragile! Some travelers may not care about the weight of their duffel, but for others it’s a factor, and particularly with heavier rolling models. In addition to its good looks and build quality, the Thule Aion is high on organization with two separate internal compartments (great for separating clean and dirty clothes), a laptop sleeve and internal zippered pocket, and external stretch and zippered stashes beside the front zip.The Transporter’s main compartment isn’t flashy (there are a few features), it’s mostly just a big space to put all of your stuff. In the end, the Base Camp Voyager Roller is a great combination of durability, functionality, and outdoor style.

From our experience, the build quality isn’t quite up to Patagonia standards, and the REI doesn’t have that sleek, high-end look either.They also added on a 2-kilonewton haul loop for extra assurance when securing your gear to a mule or truck (heck, you could even haul the duffel up El Cap). This section has minimal padding, so a case or sleeve would not go amiss here for some added protection. It includes two zippered mesh pouches for the remainder of our toiletries or other small things we want to keep separate. For those who want more space, TNF also makes a 29-inch version that can accommodate more than 90 liters' worth of gear.

These awesome handles allow quick-grab access, so your bag is easily accessible and as ready to go as you are. While we always appreciate extra storage pockets, this pocket's location can be a little hard to access when the duffel is fully loaded. That’s within the guidelines for most major airlines, so depending how you pack it, the Transporter Global Carry-On is still likely to work for you. Added up, the Transporter is one of our favorite duffels for trips that start at the airport and take you to seriously adventurous locales.In addition to the backpack harness, the Transporter includes four robust grab handles — one on each side of the bag — for traditional briefcase-style carrying or for lugging out of the trunk or off the baggage claim. It opens with dual-sided zippers that run along the top of the bag and three-quarters of the way down the left side. Carry handles are useful for picking up a bag and moving it a short distance, and they’re great for carrying small capacity bags in one hand. While it has some impressive backpack features, it does not provide the back and hip support that an authentic travel backpack does.

When you’re not using the duffle it packs into a small storage case, but this may be harder than it seems.The Transporter is one of the top scorers in this performance metric thanks to its double-coated 840-denier nylon that has a TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) coating on each side that does an excellent job of repelling water. A good weekender bag can hold around 35 liters’ worth of clothing and personal supplies, meets carry-on requirements, and features a range of internal and external pockets to help you stay organized. However, don’t despair and don’t look elsewhere; when we unboxed this bag, we measured its depth around 5 inches.
