About this deal

In Italy, the film received a 4K-remastered Blu-ray release via the Italian distributor Videa in February 2017. It did not use the same 4K restoration as the US Synapse release. [ citation needed] Legacy [ edit ] In 1977, just two years after wowing horror fans with the masterpiece that is Deep Red, iconic Italian director Dario Argento somehow managed to raise the bar once more with the stunning Suspiria. More than forty years later the film still manages to impress and delight genre fans the world over. And with a pending remake merely months away, the legend of Suspiria will only continue to grow.

Goosebumps has long been known for its expert balance of comedy and horror, the 2015 film also helmed by Rob Letterman serving as a prime example of that tonal tightrope walk. The creatives involved made it a priority to maintain that sensibility while evolving beyond the candy-colored stylistic flourish and aesthetic with which Goosebumps has long been associated. Luca Guadagnino Talks Making 'Splash,' Next Is 'Suspiria' Redo". Variety. 6 September 2015 . Retrieved 18 December 2017. I'm never bothered by the idea of remakes. They happen all the time so I don't get worked up or bent out of shape about them. Instead, I become curious about what new direction a filmmaker could take the material with it still being somewhat familiar while being different enough to be worth the time. Even when they're at their worst they never detract from the original material. Guadagnino definitely did not make a shot-for-shot remake of Argento's Suspiria ! It challenges your expectations while teasing you in which direction the story is headed. I appreciate that it didn't try to ape the bright primary-fueled color scheme of the original while also letting Radiohead's Thom Yorke fill each scene with a tonally dissonant and arresting barrage of sounds rather than mimic Goblin's iconic score.

Film scholar L. Andrew Cooper notes "Aesthetic experience is arguably the ultimate source of 'meaning' in all of Argento's films, but Suspiria and the other films of the Three Mothers trilogy...take their emphasis on aesthetics further by self-consciously connecting their irrational worlds to nineteenth-century romanticism and the aestheticism that grew out of it." Olga's Story Interview With Actress Barbara Magnolfi (17:13, 1080p) - Magnolfi talks about doing ballet before acting in film, appearing in an uncredited role in Come, quando, perché (1969), and 1970s Italian film culture. She compares Olga to the other female characters in the movie. Magnofli also reminisces about working with Jessica Harper and Alida Valli. The best part is her recollections of meeting Argento in the director's office for her audition. In English, not subtitled. In March 2020, a new score, featuring members of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard alongside other Melbourne musicians, was performed live with a screening of the film. [51] Related works [ edit ] Subsequent films [ edit ] Suspiria was, I believe, mastered to 4K Blu-ray by the same person who did the also-excellent recent release of Don’t Look Now. Yet that film often operated at below 100 nits and peaked at just over 300 nits, as per the wishes of Director of Photography Tony Richmond. I mention this simply to show the glorious creative range the 4K Blu-ray format makes possible.

Sara tells Suzy that she was the one on the intercom who refused her entry the night Pat was murdered. She reveals that Pat was behaving strangely before her death and promises to show Suzy the notes that she left behind. Sara finds that Pat's notes are missing and is forced to flee when an unseen assailant enters the room. They pursue her through the school before cornering her in the attic. She escapes through a small window before falling into a pit of razor wire, entangling her and allowing her pursuer to kill her by slashing her throat. a b Coffel, Chris (23 November 2017). Dolby Atmos fans have a new disc to demo - Suspiria makes terrific use of the object-based audio format. From pouring rain and rumbling thunder outside to the thumps and thuds of the dance company inside - the film's audio mix oozes with atmospheric activity. Rain is a big activity effect through I'd wager about 2/3 of the film. Either a scene takes place outside in a downpour, or the characters are inside and the rain is hitting windows or the sides of walls. Similarly, when the film segues to winter, the sound of people stepping on brittle ice and snow gives a beautiful directional echoing effect against the concrete walls. It was announced through MTV in 2008 that a remake of Suspiria was in production, to be directed by David Gordon Green, who directed films such as Undertow and Pineapple Express. [55] The announcement was met with hostility by some, [56] including Argento himself. [57] The film was to be produced by Italian production company First Sun. [58] In August 2008, it was reported that Natalie Portman and Annette Savitch's Handsome Charlie Films were set to produce the remake, and that Portman would play the lead role. [59] The project was also announced to be produced by Marco Morabito and Luca Guadagnino. [60] After a period of no news in which it was thought that the remake attempt had failed, Green said in August 2011 that he was still trying to remake the film. [56] It was announced on 15 May 2012 that actress Isabelle Fuhrman would be cast as the lead. [61] Later that year, however, the planned remake was put on hold. In January 2013, Green revealed that it might never happen due to legal issues. [62] In April 2014, Green admitted the remake was too expensive to make during the " found-footage boom", and thus the film was ultimately not made. [63] Mumford, Gwilym (22 December 2017). In the comedy-drama film Juno (2007), Suspiria is considered by the title character to be the goriest film ever made, until she is shown The Wizard of Gore and changes her mind, saying it is actually gorier than Suspiria. The film is also mentioned in the episode "The Seminar" of The Office (season 7), Kirby Reed's horror film collection in the horror film Scream 4 (2011), and in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Hotel where a character watches Suspiria on television. FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S: From Game to Big Screen– Feel the frights of Freddy Fazbear’s come alive as the film recreates the game’s world with immersive environments and wild surprises that’ll haunt longtime fans and newcomers alike. The Hunger Games and Orphan Star Isabelle Fuhrman Set for Suspiria". Dread Central. 15 May 2012 . Retrieved 5 August 2012. Performances are uniformly excellent with Dakota Johnson fully giving herself physically to the character Susie Bannion - even if her character's emotional resonance is deceptively simple. While Johnson may the "lead," this film is actually a tribute to the range of Tilda Swinton giving her many roles to inhabit and bring to life emotionally and physically - and in one case - disgustingly! The cast of side characters are equally impressive in their own ways flavoring the horror to come; Ingrid Caven was a particularly unsettling standout. Dario Argento’s Suspiria is a cult horror masterpiece from one of the best-known names in the genre. The highly-stylized Italian film is ultimately an experiment with sound, lighting and setting where the suspense and fear arise more from working these three elements together than through the story alone. The Blu-ray edition courtesy of Synapse Films arrives with a phenomenally gorgeous high-def presentation that will simply astound and amaze the most loyal fans, and the brand-new lossless mix is also the best one could possibly imagine or have hoped for… the definitive version of the cult giallo classic and highly-recommended for devoted followers.”– High-Def DigestThe color work is particularly sensational. During the 2017 remastering process, color correction was supervised by the film’s cinematographer Luciano Tovoli, and the extra vibrancy but also subtlety we now get chance to enjoy afresh thanks to 4K Blu-ray’s wider color support and HDR’s expanded light range is nothing short of joyous. The latter half of the season is full of surprises, including a startling narrative pivot in episode eight. Serving as a conclusion to a large portion of the season’s story, the remaining two episodes delve into new territory that adds context and depth to what’s come before while setting up what the future might well bring. When asked about the plan behind this decision, Letterman, Stoller and Winston respond with candid charm. The imbibition process, used for The Wizard of Oz (1939) and Gone with the Wind (1939), is much more vivid in its color rendition than emulsion-based release prints, therefore enhancing the nightmarish qualities of the film Argento intended to evoke. [6] It was one of the final feature films to be processed in Technicolor, using the last remaining machine in Rome. [15] Post-production [ edit ] Dubbing [ edit ] Synapse Films brought Suspiria to Blu-ray in the U.S. in a 3-Disc Limited Edition Steelbook in December of 2017, then followed in March of 2018 with a pared down 2-Disc edition. The results of that release left everyone wondering if they would eventually release the film in Ultra HD, and that day has now arrived. Top 25 Horror Films of All-Time". IGN. 29 October 2010.
