About this deal

This Amber spirit is more balanced and refined than the 5 Stars and offers fruity peach and prune flavours. The woody taste of the oak barrel lingers on the palate, complementing the sipping experience. Ingredients Smooth with a floral note, vanilla, and hints of white raisins and apricot. The finish is slightly sweet and floral. Best Served

It’s really all down to preference and budget. If you have the money for it and you enjoy a more refined spirit, then Metaxa 12 will suit. If you’re not an experienced brandy drinker then you might be happy with 3, as is the case if you don’t want to spend much money. For me, Metaxa 5 is usually enough to enjoy the great taste without blowing the bank, while Metaxa 7 strikes the perfect balance between cost and taste for when I want to splash out a little. Where to Find Metaxa in Greece Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a glass. Serve immediately. Conclusion Drinks Geek is run by Andrew & Ingrid, two drinks enthusiasts with 30 years of experience and an all-consuming passion for both fragrance and flavour. Metaxa 12-Star is the most mature of the regular range of Metaxa Greek spirits, and there’s a push on to familiarize American palates with this classic Greek drink, or the Original Greek Spirit.

Our Audience

Metaxa should be stored in a cool, dark place. Once opened, Metaxa will last for up to two years. Be sure to keep the bottle tightly sealed when not in use to prevent the spirit from evaporating. How To Drink Metaxa Add the fruit and 3 US tbsp (44 ml) of agave nectar into the pitcher. Carefully place the cut up watermelon, lemon slices, and orange slices into the pitcher and use the spoon to mix it up. Then, measure 3 US tbsp (44 ml) of agave nectar and pour it into the pitcher. Pour 2 cl (0.68 fl oz) of lime juice and liquid sugar cane into the drink. Pour 2 cl (0.68 fl oz) of both liquids directly into the shaker. You can also use agave nectar as an alternative to sugar cane. The sugar cane or nectar will add a sweetness to the drink while the lime juice will add a tart flavor. [7] X Research source

Metaxa is Greece’s oldest and most prestigious spirit. It is a unique blend of fine wine distillates, brandy, and Muscat wines, aged in oak casks for at least five years. Metaxa is a smooth, mellow drink that can be enjoyed on its own or mixed with other beverages. On the nose it’s like a brandy, but a brandy with a subtle difference. There’s a floral sweetness in there but it’s a really rich floral sweetness, not the subtler notes you might get with a Scotch or a brandy. That’s because Metaxa also has botanicals in it, including rose petals. This pinnacle of Metaxa excellence contains blends from the original casks first used in the original distillery in Piraeus. These casks have been under the protection of the Metaxa Master for five generations.

Having been aged for 2 more years than the 5 star type, 7 star Metaxa will showcase a bit more of the nutty, earthy flavors than fruity flavors. The fruit flavors that are present resemble riper, heartier fruits like peaches or raisins rather than light citrus fruits. Alongside the flavor changes, this brandy is also smoother than the 5 star. 12 Star Mix 1⁄ 2 c (120 ml) of Metaxa and 3.2 c (760 ml) of red wine in a pitcher. The Metaxa and red wine blend will serve as the base of your Sangria. Pour both of them into a large pitcher and use a spoon with a long handle to mix it together until both liquids are well incorporated. The Metaxa Brandy Collection Star rating represents the minimum number of years the spirit has aged in the barrel. This heavenly spirit that is not quite a brandy or a cognac yet takes you on a journey to Greece that you will want to re-take time and time again. What Is Metaxa? You will pay very little for Metaxa in local bars and restaurants, with the 5 and 7 versions priced around the same as the most basic of whiskey and vodka imports. The 12 is a little more expensive of course, but there’s no better place to enjoy it as this drink is cheaper in Greece than it is in any other country. The rose petals are gathered from bushes grown at an altitude of around 2,500 feet. They are macerated in a solution of water and alcohol for up to one year. All the ingredients in the herbal elixir are macerated separately and then combined. The mixture is unaged. A small quantity of the herbal elixir is blended with the aged mix of spirit and wine. Metaxa Private Reserve is the sublime personal creation from Master Blender Constantinos Rapis. This private reserve brandy is created in a single batch once a year, so don’t delay getting your hands on a bottle. Orange peel, coffee, dark chocolate, and oak. The finish is floral and fruity with delicate spices for added warmth. Best Served
