About this deal

There’s Freeview Play for access to catch-up TV, on-demand services and live TV. And Toshiba hasn’t scrimped on the smart side either, with the revamped UI home to such apps as Netflix, Prime Video and Rakuten TV. The new UI is part of a tile/row interface– scroll up or down and there’s access to Sources, Settings or Live TV. The user interface is occasionally a little slow to load, particularly when using the EPG, and stutters a fair bit when browsing the menus. Toshiba’s choice of the dual-core processor at the heart of this set may not have been the best option. While the 50UK3163DB isn’t anything special when it comes to handling dark images, it sure stands out with the intensity it brings to both bright parts of dark scenes, and full-screen bright HDR content. In fact, when it comes to the bright end of the light spectrum, it delivers arguably the most aggressive HDR performance in its class.

Toshiba’s Tru Motion processor isn’t bad at all for such an affordable TV. It reduces judder without resulting in too processed or unnatural-looking pictures. Purists will be pleased to hear that the 55UL7A63DB’s native motion handling without Tru Motion active is also pretty good. But we do have some issues with noise in the picture. This is not an easy film to upscale. It has a purposefully grainy look to evoke a 1960s aesthetic and it takes a fair amount of work to stop that grain from dancing about. With out-of-the-box settings, the effect is quite unbearable. The noise filters do a reasonable job of smoothing it out, but the trade-off is that they make the smudging effect worse. Toshiba has pinpointed its picture performance as an area of growth, developing the TRU Picture Engine. It breaks down the TV’s picture performance into three parts: micro dimming, motion control and upscaling. The costs for delivery, installation services and any warranty and insurance products cannot be placed on Buy Now Pay Later. Buy Now Pay Later availability is subject to your credit and account status. The Toshiba 55UL7A63DB does a decent job of selling its native 4K resolution. With relatively static 4K shots you can clearly see more texture and detail than you’d get with a mere HD TV. What’s more, the set doesn’t lose as much of that detail during motion as you might have expected. Its Dolby Vision support really helps its HDR efforts, though, and it’s a more than solid SDR performer.

Crucially, the Toshiba 55UL7A63DB has one secret HDR colour and contrast weapon up its sleeve: its Dolby Vision support. Feeding in Dolby Vision sources makes a huge difference to picture quality, boosting contrast and especially enhancing colour tones. The extent of the difference Dolby Vision confirms that Dolby’s system actually has its biggest effect on affordable screens. Toshiba UK3C 55 Inch Smart 4K TV, TRU Picture Engine, HDR10, Dolby Vision & Atmos, Sound by Onkyo, Alexa Built-in The Toshiba 55UA3A63DB television has a large display diagonal of 55 inches, equivalent to 139 centimeters in metric measurements. It has an annual energy consumption of 103 kilowatt-hours and a typical power consumption of 71 watts, with a standby power consumption of only 0.5 watts. Without the stand, it measures 1129 millimeters in width, 81 millimeters in depth, and 655 millimeters in height. With the stand, its dimensions are the same for width but slightly larger in depth at 249 millimeters and height at 691 millimeters. It weighs 13000 grams without the stand.

Detail levels are quite high, and dialogue is never overwhelmed. The mid-range is quite open and expressive, and escalates decently well to meet the challenge of big action movie moments. Dolby Vision - makes whites brighter, intensifies colour and enhances the overall picture for an epic cinematic effect. Could you do without a costly repair if this product broke? Littlewoods Protect - Repair covers accidental damage from day one and breakdown after the manufacturer's warranty ends, all with unlimited repairs and no excess to pay. Finally in the negative column, motion handling is only solid rather than great, even with the Tru Motion feature active. The 55UL7A63DB claims to be using micro-dimming technology in its LCD panel. This sounds exciting, as the micro dimming term is now typically associated with TVs that use direct LED lighting and a huge number of small local dimming zones. However, it turns out that this isn’t what Toshiba means my micro-dimming.One last point to stress is that if you end up with a Toshiba 55UL7A63DB, try to feed it as much Dolby Vision content as you can.
