About this deal
This book should have been everything I ever wanted. 18th century gentle, slow burn gay romance involving a vampire and his secretary, with autism and ADHD rep, it seemed as if it could hardly be more up my alley if it tried. And it’s always a bitter disappointment when a book that seems perfect for you…isn’t. That, I believe, is the heart of man. Not declarations, not speeches, no, but the softest word spoken in the softest whisper, to one’s companion after a night of revelry has dwindled down to the tender dawn that follows it.Henry Coffey, a vampire, hires a young man called Theophilius Essex as his secretary. Theophilius is quiet, dilligent, and proper almost to a fault, while Henry is friendly, never shuts up, and is intent on trying to coax Theophilius into expressing any sort of opinion. Over the course of the book, we slowly watch their relationship develop and Theo open up a little as he starts to trust Henry. Rem discovers his time travels have a cost, and he plans to stop with this final journey. He learns from his past mistakes and recognizes that the journey is more important than the destination. Rem has changed from the first book in the series and grown through his time travel journeys. He is more likeable and relatable. Rem and Eve have a clean romance that survives and spans across Rem’s time travel. Finally free, Warren’s only goal is to enact revenge on the man responsible for ruining his life. A twist of fate made him a billionaire, but ruthless tenacity will ensure he gets what he wants. Characters: Henry is a 505 year old gay white vampire and publisher with ADHD. He has a cat named Astaroth. Theophilus is a 26 year old autistic gay white Greek British personal secretary. This is set in 1764 Birmingham, England.
The Doctor gives the instruction: "When I say run, run." His second incarnation said this in TV: The Tomb of the Cybermen, as did the Fifth Doctor in TV: Warriors of the Deep and the Seventh Doctor in AUDIO: Flip-Flop. That being said, if you do decide to take this fast-paced, heart-pounding adventure, you won't hate the ending. I'm not going to spoil anything, because after all this time there's no telling which iteration of his life Rem will discover. But the weeping that I talked about? Yeah. This is where it happened. Amy compares an abandoned lab to the Mary Celeste, which the Doctor doesn't want to talk about. The Daleks pursued him and his companions onto the ship and scared away the crew and passengers in TV: The Chase. This is a brilliant debut novel by Dakota Willink. While reading this book, I was put through a multitude of different emotions from good to bad. I was truly captivated by this story & how the two characters were trying to find their way. As I'm writing this I feel stunned by what I read. It isn't that it's another dark romance dealing with BDSM but how Ms. Willink wrote the book. I would definitely recommend this book. The book is meant for mature readers. HEART OF STONE concludes this character's journey in trying to repair his future while somehow escaping danger for him and those he cares about. Full of suspense and action, as well as a touch of inspiration and romance. Fans of the series will definitely enjoy this final installment!Everything I believed was nothing but a lie.The strangling grip of chaos squeezes until I can’t breathe.I don’t know who I am anymore. The tattoo as well didn’t inspire the emotional pull it should have – when did he get it exactly? Because he says he didn’t think of her (at least consciously) in a relationship light until after prison – so did he get it in prison when he suspected she had a hand in the bad business of her father? Or before when she was just a ‘younger sister’ and maybe he hadn’t openly admitted what his heart already knew? I think I’m also negatively biased by this because it reminded me of a scene from another book I didn’t love and I’m just getting feels from that – an of course that’s all on me and not the author in any way. I do not want to give too much, hence, I would get into Spoiler territory. I cannot wait to read the second and third installment of this novel. Dakota Willink I feel has a promising career in writing. First impression is lasting impression and the novel and her writing did just that. Congrats Dakota Willink. Awesome read!!! Can't wait for the next book.
Heart of Stone' is a slowly unfolding period romance between a vampire and his inimitably devoted clerk: lushly depicted in flowing, lovingly appended prose, we follow the slow understanding these two men grasp of one another, and the cross of their two worlds into each other's. Despite this being a long book, it maintained its momentum throughout and the story built to its conclusion which sets the scene for the next instalment. I'm not a huge fan of BDSM themed books but this is subtly explored and despite a visit to a sex club, the author didn't over emphasise the experience and, despite Krys’s innocence, the scene did not make me feel uncomfortable. Yes, this book ended on the inevitable Cliffe which came after an intriguing night out and an unexpected confrontation. The next instalment is already calling to me and I can't wait to see what's in store next for Alex and Krys. The one thing I love is that you can completely relate to the heroine. Krystinna is your average college graduate with marketing degree with no prospect of utilizing her degree while working in a grocery store, yes ladies in a grocery store! How much real can that get?!?! Meeting an investor due to financial woes of Wallys Grocery Store all things Krystinna would never do again has been completely chipped away piece by piece. And an offer she can refused lands on her lap or does she land in the lap on Mr. Stone?!?! In realistic position I was also excited how close this is to my Home town and yes I heard of Clifton Park.. 15 mins from where I live. I had such a true connection with the characters and how they were plotted into this story. head on confrontation of ethical and moral challenges inherent in the scenario; from the power dynamics of the employer/employee relationship, to the inequities of slavery and indenture in the British world of the 1760s I read this book in one sitting because I HAD to know what happened to my friend Rem, but also because this is edge-of-your-seat storytelling. And if you have any emotional investment in these characters or this story, you simply cannot quit it. Campione, Katie (August 15, 2023).
