About this deal

Friendly Rivalry: Fujino and Kyomoto have elements of it, with both being deeply inspired by the other to improve their art. It's tragically used as the reason Fujino blames herself for Kyomoto's death, feeling like her friendship pushed her to go to art school. Surprisingly Sudden Death: Kyomoto and 11 others at her art school are killed by a random act of violence by a delusional man halfway through the one shot. The remainder of the story is centered on Fujino dealing with the grief of losing Kyomoto. Hodgkins, Crystalyn (September 6, 2021). "Chainsaw Man Manga Gets Novel on November 4". Anime News Network. In the Style of: Analysis of the one-shot has drawn comparisons to the works of Inio Asano, a mangaka well-known for his own somber Coming of Age stories filled with tragedy. Oricon (in Japanese). Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (in Japanese). Takarajimasha. June 9, 2017. Archived from the original on September 29, 2022 . Retrieved November 15, 2022. But also a story of friendship sketched out, between two teenagers, one arrogant, mischievous and falsely sure of herself, the second, shy (even hikkimori) but careful and diligent; their complementarity being symbolized by these mangas that they will draw with four hands, one for the scenarios/characters, the second for the extremely neat decorations. Only, rather than clinging to these sensitive little details, Fujimoto, himself perhaps still a teenager in his approach, cannot help slipping slightly down two slippery slopes: on the one hand, the one who thinks that t is absolutely necessary that a drama occur (as such, he probably went beyond the medium and its prerogatives less than he thinks), then, that of a pathos sometimes slightly too strong. Despite everything, a recommendable one shot, revealing the sentimental aspect of an author ostensibly more busy rolling mechanics. fitting for the manga format, what the main characters, fujino and kyoumoto, interestingly sharing kanjis with the mangaka fujimoto himself, create is manga.

Dream Sequence: Near the end of the one-shot, Fujino imagines a world where she had given up on manga, and learned karate with her sister, and was thus able to save Kyomoto's life. Fujimoto next work was Love is Blind ( 恋は盲目, Koi wa Mōmoku), for which he won an Honorable Mention Award at the November 2013 Shueisha's Crown Newcomers' Awards, [16] [17] and was his first published work, being launched in Jump SQ.19 vol. 13 on April 19, 2014. Establishing Character Moment: Fujino is first seen humble-bragging about her skills as an artist, but also mentioning that she has no desire for an entire career in manga and prefers athletics. This sets up how Fujino ultimately has no passion for drawing beyond her pride and making Kyomoto happy. Fans of Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch will immediately recognize the same author, if indeed that isn't the reason you came here to begin with. Whether that is the reason or not, this one-shot is definitely worth reading if you have an hour or two to spare and enjoy a little slice of life.

Goodbye, Eri ( さよなら絵梨, Sayonara Eri ) (2022) — Published in Shōnen Jump+ and collected in one volume it is about regret and it is about dealing with these feelings of regret and coming to accept that the past can not be changed, no matter how hard one tries. Just Listen to the Song ( フツーに聞いてくれ, Futsū ni Kiitekure, "Listen to Me Normally") (2022) — Illustrated by Oto Tōda; published in Shōnen Jump+Loners Are Freaks: A significant part of the one-shot centers on how lonely making art can be. Fujino as a child is shown to be a relatively normal and outgoing, but starts to be ostracized by her friends and has a more distant relationship with her family as she becomes fixated on being a good artist. Even when she becomes friends with Kyomoto, their lives revolve around making art, and Fujino questions if sacrificing so much for it mattered at all after Kyomoto's death.
