For freediving you want the smallest internal volume so it’s the least affected by squeeze as you dive down so you don’t have to exhale and waste your breath and the new Mares X-Tream mask which is made to be as minimalist as possible. With its wide field of view, tempered glass lens, and comfortable fit, it1 is a great choice for both beginner and experienced divers alike. The CE certified tempered glass lens has no distortion or coloration and provides excellent visibility in all light conditions.

Plus, if you’re not a fan of having your face covered, this mask is perfect for you: it has large eye windows so that you can see everything around you clearly while still breathing easily. I took the A1 to Florida and—despite my initial skepticism—I did notneed to defog the mask with toothpaste or burn it, after a liberal coating with spit to prevent fogging, of course. The rear strap has a nice shape similar to the infinite symbol (a horizontal 8) made of glossy silicone and a 3D variable thickness.

Sure they’re not quite so durable but it doesn’t matter when they’re as cheap as the F1 and so far my own one has yet to show any signs of wear and tear.

The pink is a pretty iridescent shade, and the mask, while it does have a frame, also has a single lens, which I prefer. We tested this mask on a few of our divers to various depths between 5-25m and no one reported a leak. The benefit of brighter white, yellow, and pink coloured skirts is that they are easy to spot and will make you more easily identifiable, even in murky waters. Although the extra light can create reflections and could cause a distraction if you’re not used to it.

Finally, the silicon skirt is neatly bonded around the lens without a rigid frame in between which gives rise to the low profile of this mask.

Therefore we feel you need to have a bit more care for this mask, as you could easily damage it if you don’t. The narrow lenses of course reduce the field of view, and this can be slightly felt in the lower part of the view. The monolens in both the Z1 and the ZS1 has a very detailed profile, made of a number of rounded and straight sides.It’s also got UV400 protection built in, so you can go diving without having to worry about getting sunburned on top of all that other stuff! The lower band has integrated 3D Cressi logo while the upper one has refined thickened lines to strengthen the central area. You can also style every aspect of this content in the module Design settings and even apply custom CSS to this text in the module Advanced settings. The connection of the side buckles is directly on the skirt close to the lens, with a thickened reinforced area.
