About this deal

It also works really well if you are planning to use the grinder for multiple different brew methods and grind sizes. When I see advice to begin with a setting of around 10 for espresso I start to wonder if there is something wrong with my grinder or my technique. The reason for this is that the environment, whether it's in your kitchen or in your office, isn't the best place for coffee beans – and if the beans are in your hopper, they're in your environment. Having said that, generally speaking I’d expect better espresso quality with any decent espresso machine by investing more in a higher level grinder.

This is something I've been told by many people over the years, Sage support are very good when it comes to swapping out machines if they're still within the warranty period. They're a zero-emission courier that uses all electric vans and plants a tree for every parcel — plus they have great tracking and control options for your deliveries. Committed to ethical practices and community engagement, we celebrate coffee traditions while embracing innovation for a world-class coffee culture. Personally if I wanted a grinder for various different brew methods, from my experience with the smart grinder pro, I’d definitely go for another one of these if this one gave up. It's worth pointing out, also, that if you're asking the question about grind size, this only really makes any difference if you're using freshly roasted coffee beans. It's just ridiculously user-friendly, and that's the main thing I have to say about most Sage machines, really, they seem to think of just about everything to make them as idiot-proof as possible, although to be fair even Sage couldn't do quite a good enough job of that with this idiot, as I couldn't figure out to start with how to get the Gaggia classic portafilter to rest in the portafilter cradle. Each appliance is easy to use, with straightforward controls that do all the thinking for you to give precise results every time. The other far more annoying is that the timer runs down to zero and continues from the top again and the buttons don’t work. They are quick to get back to you and are really friendly :) I definitely recommend if you'd like to get some good quality coffee delivered at your doorstep.

I think there have been a few issues with some models, but I’ve also heard that the Baratza support team are really good, to be fair. You may see the exact same Sage grinder marketed as a Breville conical burr grinder in other countries. Whilst you can remove a worn impeller through the lower burr quite easily, a new one won’t fit through it and you have to do quite a substantial dismantling of the machine to remove the lower burr. It's plenty quick enough for me, when I was using it as my daily driver for manual brew (mainly Aeropress) and for espresso, I never had an issue with grinding speed. If an instruction booklet isn’t your thing, we’ve partnered with BILT® Intelligent Instructions for a seamless and interactive product setup.

To be honest I've always found a Cafetiere quite mucky to clear up and clean so I use a filter in a Hario V60 dripper which sits on top of a Hario jug enough for 3 cups of coffee and a goose neck kettle to pour the water over the coffee. PS I’m using a Dedica with the bottomless portafilter you recommended and am pleased with the results: thank you for that tip. I can’t decide which of the sage grinders to get – it’s usually only for me so I don’t need the big bean hopper, but I like the lcd display on the pro one. The Dose Control Pro is a solid entry-level burr sage coffee grinder, with coffee grinder settings suitable for espresso and filter grinding. Considering each espresso shot weighs roughly 20g that’s around 20 shots of coffee (minus a little for dialing in your shot).

The efficiently designed Stainless Steel Conical Burr blades rotate slower than flat burrs, meaning less heat transfer and greater particle surface area that translates into sweeter and more balanced flavours. The burrs themselves have a unique internal adjustment that allows you to tweak them over the years to continue to perform as the burrs wear, and replacement burrs are inexpensive, too, if you should need them.
