About this deal

Whether it’s a moment of insight or just a way to pass the time, the Sketch Wallet makes it as easy as possible to capture ideas and practice your skills. Unboxing the Sketch Wallet Our first average we look at for Derwent Sketching Wallet is to judge it against other products from the same brand, in this case it’s Derwent. This tells us that there are a total of 56 Derwent products at The Range.

As a public transport user, I carry my loaded Walkit in my main sketching bag, together with bulkier things such as my sketchbook, water containers, clipboard and so on. I then put it on when I get to my destination. The shoulder strap is adjustable and long enough to be worn crossbody style, and while the design isn’t symmetrical, it can be carried to the left or right. You never know when inspiration might strike. The most creative concept you’ve ever had could spontaneously flash into your consciousness when you’re least expecting it. Any wallet with these dimensions should be able to hold quite a bit, but we were surprised by how little the “sketch” portion of the wallet diminishes its capacity. While there are other travel sketchbooks available around this size, the Sketch Wallet makes smaller drawings easier for several reasons. Today, we’re going to be reviewing the classic Sketch Wallet. This beefy wallet isn’t small coming in at 4.5″x6″. This is obviously down to the fact the wallet has the ability to store a note, or sketchbook that comes in at a size of 3.5″x5.5″. The quality of the Sketch wallet is top-notch. Made from non-descript leather I think the quality is better than genuine leather (the worst type) but not as good as the likes of full-grain, putting it somewhere in the middle. Another version of the wallet is available in canvas for a cheaper price and actually gives the wallet a better and more attractive appearance. When I first saw a Walkit – in social media posts from the 2019 Amsterdam Symposium – I knew I had to try it! I opted for the smaller of the two sizes (165mm W x 210mm H) – I like to travel light and I didn’t want a wider bag that would encourage me to fill it with more than I really needed as an urban sketcher working in ink and watercolour. My local sketching friend Yvonne has kindly written a review of her Walkit bag and so I’ll let her tell you more about the bag.

However, we then like to go a little deeper to explore more detail about the product by looking at products in the same category as Derwent Sketching Wallet. That then tells us that there are 5308 products in the Arts & Crafts category at The Range. The Walkit has been designed by a working artist and it shows – there’s no feeling of compromise and every feature is useful. Perhaps my only criticism is that it could do with a few more of the slightly looser elastic loops, big enough for fountain pens. The fabrics are sturdy and everything is cleanly stitched and finished. And it looks beautiful! The Walkit won’t hold your sketchbook, nor your wallet, phone, drink bottle or lunch. In that respect it’s not a bag, but it is a fantastic artist’s holster. If you’ve been looking for something that will keep your tools conveniently to hand during extended sketching sessions then this is worth your attention. It could be in line at Costco. It could be during a walk with your Labrador. It could happen during an elevator ride or waiting for your tires to be rotated. While musicians might be able to record melodies that pop into their heads at 4am, artists are left scrambling for a scrap of napkin to scribble on. Early last year my urban sketcher friend Cecilia Simonyi from Hungary asked me to test a prototype for a sketching bag and was it great to see her selling the final product at the Urban Sketchers Symposium in Amsterdam in July. I wasn’t able to review the final version at the time, so Cecilia kindly sent me four different versions to test. I’m still in the process of testing all four Walkit bags to find which works the best for me, but I can tell you straight away that I absolutely love them! Description of the design: The Hungarian Sea – as people call it, an 80 kilometer long lake with silky blue-green water in the middle of Transdanubia. Lake Balaton is one of Hungary’s most precious treasures, and also the largest lake in Central Europe. The essence of our iconic lake is brought into this series of walkit bags. If you choose it with pattern, you will see the beautiful vegetation in the Balaton World Heritage area. Last month I taught a 3-day workshop and each day I loaded up a different Walkit bag to test. It was so convenient to have all my tools by my side and to have them so easily accessible. I wore the Walkit all day with my usual blue cross body bag over the top. All my tools felt secure whether I was sketching, walking around or catching public transport.
