About this deal

Quote from: sleemanj on April 09, 2018, 10:06:24 am It's fake, but it's flux, unless you are in industry where you need to strictly control your process it will be just fine. It has a good in and out of fridge shelf life of 24 months and says in the datasheet REL0 which is meant to be resin based and halide free. DIY soldering flux, get an IPA and mix with violin's rosin as its already cleaned and filtered, all of these ingredient are cheap and easily sourced. I spent almost a whole day looking through different offers now (wasted would be a more appropriate expression), so I'm now turning to you and would kindly ask about some recommendations.

tl;dr What no clean lead-free tacky flux do you use / can recommend for hot air rework of the usual suspects (QFP, QFN, SOIC, small BGAs etc.

When it comes to soldering Sn60/Sn62/Sn63 leaded MT alloys using Hot Air station the V2 formulation would be one of the first choices for the handcraft/hobby/rework - V2 chemistry instantly wets Sn/Pb MT alloys but most importantly it has sufficient body to withstand rework with Hot Air station for extended period of time. Since you use Chipquik SMD291 try and reproduce the test in this video, it may be counterfeit flux being used as the label appears backwards and marked differently.

Putting that expertise to good use, we decided to start RetroSix; a small team of people passionate about retro gaming, and restoring original consoles to like-new, adding our own twist and style to them and in general bringing a modern twist to retro. Quote from: deadlylover on April 20, 2020, 03:41:05 am My tube from RS seems to test at about 7-10MOhms just dotting it on the bench, what a piece of crap. Might not be what you want to get sucked under your ICs by capillary effect, where it will be pretty impossible to clean it (I do not own an ultrasonic cleaner), even if it's supposed to be "no-clean". Do note these are heavily counterfeited in China, so if you're after one, you've been warned (seems the innards don't always work).Partners are carefully selected for innovative and progressive movement within the industry as well as compliance with product safety and workplace practise. And food-grade alcohol is cheap and we always have some in the house on account of familymembers using it for making their own limonchello and such. While the stuff in this video wets well (and undoubtedly the real product does) it would also be good to know how badly the genuine product smokes and spits. I guess the "dodgy" flux that probably part of it contained dissolved/cooked flour, rice or corn powder for making it jelly like or gelatinous form, is good for your pcb and components.
