I don’t know that I have words to adequately describe this book because the story is so different from my own. And that is what I love about books like this. I get to experience in a very small way, a little of what someone else has loved for their entire life. Ly Tran’s family immigrated to the US from Vietnam in 1993. They knew little to no English, lived in poverty (below the poverty line), worked and scraped to get by (barely so at times)...so many examples of how government systems failed them, of how hard work does not equal success, and of how our family and birth circumstances account for so much of what happens in our lives.
