About this deal

The Kill Team rules have been completely rewritten for the new edition, and terrain has been given the same attention as everything else. Each piece in the box has a defined set of rules that affects how your operatives interact with it. Finally, make vantage points relevant. Yeah, they can be a problem but don’t forget that vantage points are an important mechanical part of the game. If the players see them more as a nuisance or something to avoid rather than something important, we’ve messed up building the layout. Doors and Hatches This is where it gets a little weird because you basically get half of the Ork Mekboy Shop (rubble piles and barricades) plus what looks to be about a Battlezone’s worth of dedicated unreleased Ork terrain.

As you’d expect, the book is also filled with plenty of awesome artwork and pictures of world-class painted models. Kill Team: Octarius War ManualAs I said, I’ll not rehash all the rules and mechanics, as you can browse them in our Kill Team: Octarius guide. Suffice it to say that, from the perspective of a long-term 40k player with tastes skewed more toward storytelling and atmosphere than competition, Kill Team 2.0 is very promising indeed. Awards you a Victory Point for having three or more friendly operatives close to the opponent’s drop zone in each Turning Point except the fourth.

Parts for two-three extra bits of raised gantry (for some reason not mentioned in the Octarius book or instructions) A lot of terrain features have doors and hatches to work with, and Chalnath introduced rules for using these that have been a great addition to the game and create interesting interactions. Generally you should plan on using these when setting up terrain. I’d recommend that if something looks like a door, give it door rules. The same goes for hatches, even if they aren’t featured on the Octarius terrain. They’re made from the same plastic as your figures. That does mean that if you so wish you could paint these up in some way – perhaps to mirror the aesthetic of your Kill Team faction of choice? And, since no faction’s Kill Team canconsist of more than two Fireteams, this means quite a few of the currently available Kill Team configurations can simply only have one or two types of miniatures in them. Space Marines, who can only have one Fireteam, are especially hit by this homogenising effect.
