About this deal

Also known as an ‘over fascia vent’, fascia ventilation allows air to pass into the roof space between the felt and fascia board. Essentially there are two elements to dealing with condensation; the first is to understand where comes from, and the second is how it is removed from your home. After installation, the condensation levels should be monitored and if found to persist, then it is recommended that an additional row of ventilation panels be fitted between the next lowest roofing underlay overlap on both sides of the roof. Ridge tile vents are placed on the ridge, at the very peak of the roof to allow warm air to escape rather than condense in the roof space. The vent ridge replaces a normal ridge tile and the felt below the vent ridge is cut to allow the air out through a sleeve which comes with the ridge tile. Ridge tile vents can, by adding a pipe adapter, also be used to fix an extractor fan hose to.

Most homes will have all the features to reduce moisture getting into the loft, but we have to accept that some will get in there. Then the question becomes how to deal with it. This is where what project focuses on. Danelaw® offers a wide range of roofing ventilation products covering a wide range of tile types and construction details, from new build developments to refurbishment. It is retrofitted to reduce condensation in the roof space. Simple for anyone to fit from inside the loft by simply inserting between the overlaps of underlay. It is recommended that one ventilator panel is fitted between each rafter in the lowest underlay lap above the level of the insulation layer in the loft on both sides of the roof (see product brochure fig. 1). There is no stopping moisture in the home. We create it from cooking, boiling the kettle, washing and even breathing out. This moisture is warm and will rise with the warm air in our houses, eventually finding its way into the loft.Over vent” fascia is another good solution for problematic roofing spaces but does not offer as easy of an installation process. However, the mesh grill design keeps out pests and is ideal for those who desire a hidden solution, unlike soffit vents. A cold roof is the traditional roof design. This type of roof has dominated loft spaces for decades and continues today. In the modern-day, they are commonly insulated at ceiling level using fibreglass insulation laid across ceiling joists. So, what is the point of roof ventilation? Well, it’s helping your roof “breathe” and reduce weather from affecting home functions. In this guide, you’ll learn what roof vents are, what the different types of roof vents are and more to help you install the ideal roofing vents on your home.

The lap vent is another easy solution for ventilation problems. Especially in poorly vented areas of the property. Though commonly used on older roofs with bitumen sarking felt (waterproofing layers), they can also be fitted to roof membranes if needed. When upgrading roof space insulation, it is important to consider the effect on the roof and ensure that adequate levels of roofing ventilation is provided or maintained to avoid damage and the decay caused by the increased risk of condensation. Hambleside Danelaw have produced a short article about the ventilation requirements for cold and warm pitched roofs which is featured on Roofing Today. Ensuring familiarity with the roofing ventilation requirements will assist in constructing an appropriately ventilated roof. The panels should be fully inserted with the ribs uppermost and the two retaining tabs locating over the exposed edge of the roofing underlay.

Cold Roof versus Warm Roof

This should be clear of insulation (or anything else for that matter) so that air can flow up into the loft space, circulate and then out the other side removing any moisture by cooling warm air down before it hits a cold surface. If you’re looking specifically for turbine vents, find out how many turbine vents you need using our guide. A dry ridge vent system is mandatory for all new roof installations in the UK. They are installed without the use of mortar. A mortar is a wet ridge used to support this type of vent. By the time that you have completed all these measures you should have enough ventilation in your loft of attic space to stop condensation forming but it pays to be sure. F you need to go to the expense of getting a roofer to fit vent ridge it pays to make absolutely sure you have enough. That said, too many is not helpful as they are awkward to remove should you need to.
