About this deal

Once you chip in a ball, get rid of it so that now you’re down to 2 balls. Continue this drill until you chip in the second ball and remove it so that you’re down to one ball. Lots of club golfers will practice with a different ball to the one they play with - but this makes it difficult to develop a consistent feel around the greens. Finally, take your lob wedge – or most lofted club – and place your marker some 75%-80% distance down towards the flag. But good posture is the first step; once you have that, you can adjust your stance to suit the shot. 2. Tweak your stance and setup

Chip 2 balls to each of the three flags, the first two towards the first flag, the following two at the next, and so on. Hit some chip shots with that club and again aim to see the ball landing at the marker before rolling on the short rest of the way. The most important aspect of chipping (besides choosing the right club) is to make sure that the left wrist (or right wrist for left-handed golfers) does not break down during the chipping motion. The moment the wrist breaks down two things happen: Follow the chipping drills below to get your chip shots into gimme range and save more pars during your golf round. To combat the fear of the yips returning, Harmon recommends two practice swings with the drill, then immediately stepping in for your standard shot. Chipping Drill 3: Stop the Chunks with a HeadcoverWhen you have left yourself a few yards from the green, you probably want to chip the ball towards the hole. The chip is a short stroke designed to bounce and gently roll toward the hole.

If the first chip fails to get within 5 feet, go grab it and restart. Only once the first chip is inside 5 feet will you be allowed to attempt the second chip. Start off with a hole that is closer to you and once you pass the drill, move to another hole further away or that is more challenging. No matter how well you hit the ball there are times during your golf round where you will miss the green and find your ball only a chip shot away from the putting surface. Getting up and down through a nice chip that puts you in a position to easily one-putt is a great recipe for saving par when you do miss the green. Then reverse it by chipping to the far hole, then the middle hole, then the closest hole and making all 3 up and downs in a row.

Depending on the lie conditions and many other factors the best course of action oftentimes is to see the ball make just the hop necessary to clear the rough so that it lands on the putting green and starts rolling from there. Many players find it hard to achieve the ideal tempo on chip shots. Consider the club you are using, the type of shot you are playing, and give it a gentle nudge in the right direction. The best way to perfect this, once again, is through practice. 3) Identify The Correct Clubface Angle Place some upside down cones in between the participant and the target. Teams get minus points if any ball land or touches the hazard. To start with our golf tips on chipping — chipping requires a different approach to your normal swing. Your stance should be narrow, similar to your putting stance.

Relilac’s tri-turf hitting mat is an ideal option to help you practice our chipping golf tips. The tri-turf gives you the option of hitting off the artificial turf equivalent of the fairway, rough and green. This enables you to hone chipping skills from various lies at an affordable price.

I'm not a huge fan of chipping with the same club all the time; it's much easier to get the ball closer to the pin if you can use the same chipping technique with different clubs. Measure out distances of 30 feet, 40 feet, 50 feet, 60 feet, and 70 feet from a hole of your choice on the practice green. There are plenty of options when it comes to calibrating your distances. My preferred method is to learn one basic stroke size that you are really comfortable with, and to simply change the club. This will alter the distance due to changing flight-to-roll ratios. Remember this golden rule: Hit down to make the ball go up. Understanding this bit of physics will help you make the proper stroke. It also explains why it’s so important to keep your upper body tilted toward the target, because it’ll help you make a descending blow. 4. Understand your chipping stroke

Create sectors using appropriate markers. In teams the children attempt to land the ball in the oppositions sector. Each team scores a point for every time they land the ball in the opponents sector. When you chip with an 8-iron the ball will fly one-third of the distance to the hole and roll two-thirds.Like your putting stroke, a good chipping stroke will require your arms to stay relatively intact and quiet during the motion. Think about your arms and shoulders forming a triangle: Your goal is to keep that triangle intact while it moves throughout your motion. Our 10th and final short game drill is a high volume rep drill to build your putting skills from 6 feet and in since this is a critical distance you’ll face often. Each week, two of the six teams will face off over 15 holes of action comprising Triples and Singles sessions
