About this deal

The big screen also comes at the cost of the Note’s usual oval-shaped fingerprint sensor home button. com is a leading authority on technology, delivering lab-based, independent reviews of the latest products and services. That’s before you take into account any cloud storage – the Note 8 comes with OneDrive and Google Drive preinstalled. We’ve seen something similar with the Huawei P10, but it’s still a fun new addition that many users will likely experiment with. If you're after something a little cheaper, we've rounded up the very best cheap Android mobile phones for 2018.

The Note 7 also debuted S Pen features like GIF Capture and Translate, but these will be new to most Note 8 users. Some people will appreciate the addition of the feature, though we can’t say it’s something we would use – they just don’t work as seamlessly as they do on Snapchat. It's a multimedia powerhouse visually, but its bottom-firing speaker still had us cupping the bottom of the phone to get better audio. It's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, with no new features, and so it benchmarked about the same as other Snapdragon 835 devices. The phone supports the full cadre of gigabit LTE technologies to extend coverage and speed; it shares that, right now, only with the Moto Z2 Force and other new Samsung devices.

The various shades of black and grey on our digger were clearly defined, the text on the bottle label easily readable, and colours again very true to life. The company will have taken the greatest amount of care to ensure everything works as it should, and it would be hugely, hugely surprising to see it repeat the same mistakes. Samsung’s new Note flagship traditionally arrives with enough power to blow all other contenders out the water.

It has also added the best part of a centimetre to the phone’s height, and the most obvious difference when viewing the Note 8 next to the Galaxy S8 is how much taller is this handset. But while we’d one day like to see this functionality embedded into the Note’s panel itself, for now it’s not at all as bad as you may have heard. Samsung could fix this issue with an in-glass front fingerprint sensor, but the technology isn’t ready yet. Running the Geekbench 4 multi-core and single-core tests, the Galaxy Note 8 reached 6614 and 2008 respectively – the highest figure we’ve seen on an Android handset thus far. With decades of editorial experience under her belt, she’ll keep you up-to-date and connected through simple, down-to-earth information in the most budget-friendly and sustainable way possible. Frequent note-takers will love the off-screen memo feature, which lets you jot down white-ink notes on the turned-off black screen as soon as you eject the S Pen. That means it is lower in capacity than the 3,500mAh Galaxy S8+, but it’s unlikely that the 200mAh loss will make a huge difference to battery life, especially when you also factor in the savings afforded by the new 10nm processor. inch ‘Infinity Display’ to work with – but one that doesn’t increase the dimensions of the actual phone too much. Lit up, the all-screen Note 8 feels like we’re carrying around a piece of light when we’re out and about.

This is likely because of the Note 8’s larger screen – and the fact we use the onscreen variants of GFXBench tests. The quality of the wide-angle camera is just as good as the Galaxy S8’s which is to say it’s sublime. With 6 GB RAM to work with and a Mali G71 MP20 GPU, it tears through any task you set it, from multi-tasking to multimedia, gaming to productivity apps.

While using the Note8 with the Gear VR and Gear 360 lets you experience spectacular videos and games in virtual reality. Its bezel-less display is on par with the dazzling beauty of the Galaxy S8, and with bang-up-to-date internals, new and improved S Pen features and fancy dual rear cameras, the Note 8 is the crème de la crème of smartphone flagships. It's crystal clear in the earpiece, and there's a powerful speakerphone with an Extra Volume option that boosts it loud enough to even be heard over traffic noise.

Signs of wear on the body and screen, may have visible dents and scratches that do not affect the performance of the phone. It’s impossible for us to compare it to the Note 7’s S Pen without one to hand, but in use we can say it feels smooth and accurate, with no lag, friction or other annoyances. Samsung has also instituted new battery-testing procedures to make sure the Note 8 batteries are safe. It's really nice to be able to sign and send things without printing them out, something Apple has also been promoting with the Pencil on its iPad Pro. inch ‘Infinity Display,’ faster 6GB of RAM performance and two best-in-class rear cameras, which add up to one of the most expensive phones ever. Samsung, annoyingly, refreshes its phones with new colors after a few months, much to the chagrin of loyal early adopters. The Note8 is here and we can't help but feel the tension rising, especially in Europe where this is the first Note device to officially land in two years. In our test shots of St Pancras from our seventh-floor roof terrace the Note 8 managed to capture every little detail, right down to the individual bricks and street names at ground level.
