About this deal

Slinky Malinki gets up to all sorts of mischief at night, as he prowls around the neighbourhood retrieving items of interest to add to his collection. The illustrations are fun and colorful and the story has plenty of descriptive language they may not have heard before. With cumulative rhymes and sunny ink and watercolor illustrations, this international favorite chronicles the escapades of our hero Hairy and his crew of five kooky canines. The horror genre is really great for making use of symbol, because it is one of the most highly symbolic genres (along with Westerns and sci-fi, which are less common in picture books. A great opening to an excellent rhyming story about a mischievous cat who spends the night ‘pilfering and pillaging’ from houses in the neighbourhood.

Because we all know a cat or two, cat stories tend to take place at night, when cats are most active. But when they suddenly find themselves face-to-face with Scarface Claw - the toughest Tom in town - it's time to run all the way back home! Told through playful rhymes and watercolour illustrations, this hilarious classic story has delighted children for generations. Unfortunately Greywacke Jones’s size makes her an easy target for hustlers such as Scarface Claw and on occasion she’s been chased up trees by noisy, scruffy, hairy dogs. Any cat owner will recognise this situation - the cat making a nuisance of itself until it gets what it wants. The image on the final page reminds me very much of the image from a now out-of-print book by Kenneth Grahame (of Wind In The Willows fame), in which Bertie the pig escapes from his sty, breaks into the farm house and eats all the Christmas goodies. The brilliantly clever rhyme and vivid, engaging pictures have made this story into a children's classic, beloved for over 40 years - and it's still one of the most popular picture books today.

Told through playful rhyme and colourful illustrations, Slinky Malinki has delighted generations of children with his laugh-out-loud adventures. Writing in the 1970s, Blount, in the paragraph above, mentions some mid-century books I haven’t heard of.Slinky Malinki wakes the whole family early, and then goes back to sleep, leaving everyone awake and complaining. Slinky Malinki and Stickybeak Sid are home alone, causing a trail of destruction from bathroom to bedroom. We honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' continuous connection to Country, waters, skies and communities. He feels mischievous and mad and not only does he scamper away but all his friends - Bottomley Potts, Muffin McLay, Hercules Morse, Schnitzel von Krumm and the rest follow "Galloping here, galloping there, rollicking, frolicking everywhere"!

Sometimes it is difficult not to resent their apparent success, and they are good or evil according to their creator’s feelings. One day I look forward to delving in deeply to Lynley Dodd’s perfect scansion, but for now I’ll point out the following techniques, also used by T. The book is beautifully illustrated, very descriptive and rhymes so children want it read to them over and over which is a strength of this story especially for early elementary grades like Kindergarten because the students would be able to hear the phenomes and the words that rhyme which would improve their reading fluency. BOOK OF THE MONTH - A heart-warming and hilarious story told in 25 chapters, perfect for the countdown to Christmas.

Slinky Malinki wakes from a cosy sleep, stretches and slips out through the catflap and into the night. A 'cat and mouse' chase follows, with the two characters ending up peacefully snuggled together after Zachary Quack has saved a soggy Hairy Maclary from the river. But like most bullies, Scarface turns out to be not quite as tough as everybody thinks - in fact, he's scared of his own reflection! This elegant cream-coloured Siamese wears a collar which impeccably matches her bright blue eyes and is adorned with a delicate tinkling bell.
