This book is focused on sobriety but applies well to trauma and any other very difficult thing a person may be going through. Laura is lovely, her story is compelling, and I love the structure of the 9 essential truths in this book. She gives words to feelings and thoughts that many don't want to acknowlege and the reader is left realizing that they aren't so abnormal or awful. Without sugarcoating the struggles of recovery, she relentlessly emphasizes the many blessings of an honest life, one without secrets and debilitating guilt. I don't protect different versions of myself, and I don't have to keep track of my stories, because there aren't any - there's just the one life I'm living.
