About this deal

I bought this to replace my wonderful Sigma 18-250 (which my talented 19 -year old granddaughter got to go with the K5 I passed on to her). I use a K5ii, Lightroom, PS Elements and Topaz Clarity, and the LR Lens Correction set and Detail sharpening set put the 18-250 on par with much more expensive brands, and the same is true for the 18-300. The processing software isn't essential to a great result, but it provides good optimization for an already fine lens. Thanks to the optical stabilisation, sharp hand-held images are possible around half the time at shutter speeds as low as 1/40sec at 300mm, which is roughly four stops slower than the usual rule of thumb would dictate is possible. There's noticeable improvement at 200mm. At f/6.3, the lens scores 1,873 lines. If you're paying attention it won't be a surprise that the edges are not good, though, showing just 1,127 lines. Stopping down to f/8 (2,021 lines) and f/11 (2,050 lines) goes a long way to sharpen the center and midparts of the frame, but you'll still be left with 1,222 lines and 1,482 lines (respectively) at the periphery. The color rendition from this lens is very standard for Sigma, which means that it’s top notch. There is no where as high a contrast level as you’d see with the Art series, but instead it is a bit more muted. Despite the muted colors, it isn’t at all horrible and a bit of a saturation boost in Adobe Lightroom will solve any problems. Color Fringing

Both are about the same size and easy to carry. A few comments are that the K5ii and 18-300 seem a bit heavy, but I remind those folks that often that's all I need to carry.
