About this deal

In 2012, Dredd was one of 10 British comic characters commemorated in a series of stamps issued by the Royal Mail. [25] [26] These six books were later republished in two omnibus volumes. A seventh book in the series was published in 2021: Luna-1 (multiple stories; progs 42–59) Dredd is assigned to act for six months as Judge Marshall of Luna-1, a colony on Earth's moon governed by judges from all three Mega-Cities. This story introduced Luna-1 and Judges from East-Meg One and Texas City.

Harvey (progs 2024-2029) and Machine Law (progs 2115-2122). This story introduces a new generation of robot judges that prove significantly more reliable than their predecessors and continue to appear in later stories. Judge Hershey resigns and is succeeded by Logan as Chief Judge. Games Workshop released a Judge Dredd role-playing game in 1985. [128] Mongoose Publishing released The Judge Dredd Roleplaying Game in 2002 [129] and another Judge Dredd game using the Traveller system in 2009. Their licence ended in 2016. In February 2017, EN Publishing announced the new Judge Dredd & The Worlds of 2000 AD Tabletop Adventure Game using the WOIN ( What's OLD is NEW) role-playing game system. The description of the Donut beyond the slums of the Overlords paints a picture that is less pretty and more " Death World". Local predators included giant sabertooth tigers, insects whose venom brings instant death, killer fish, a species of thorny plant that will try to rip apart any living creature it can reach, and a species of intelligent spiders that would construct cunning traps for larger mammals so they could be paralyzed and then implanted with eggs — these last ones, the Nandies hunted to extinction. Environmental habits include random and deadly solar flares, and weeks-long windstorms where the gusts can reach up to five hundred kph.Inferno (progs 842–853). Escaped rogue Judges from Titan take over the city, forcing the Judges into exile out in the Cursed Earth. The total annihilation device is a nuclear warhead of massive power, capable of obliterating an entire mega-city in a single cataclysmic explosion. Six mega-cities have been destroyed in this way in the Judge Dredd strip: East-Meg One in the Apocalypse War, and five others in " Judgement Day". The Apocalypse War served as a graphic illustration of their power, not only with the destruction of East Meg One but with twenty five TADs launched by MC-1 in the early hours of the war, diverted to another reality by the Sov "Apocalypse Warp" (a shield which deflected the weapons from MC-1). They not only destroyed the entire planet in the other dimension, but caused a rift in reality that destroyed two adjacent dimensions (this would be revealed nineteen years later in "Helter Skelter"). A list of all Judge Dredd stories to appear in the Judge Dredd Megazine from October 1990 to November 2022 (#1 to #450) is available at WikiCommons. [28]

The Lawrod rifle was the standard rifle carried by all street judges in a holster on the side of their Lawmaster bikes. It became obsolete and was replaced with the Widowmaker in 2114. Exclusive: John Wagner And Alex Garland Talk Dredd". empireonline.com. Archived from the original on 18 October 2012 . Retrieved 11 July 2012. The Cursed Earth (progs 61–85). Dredd, accompanied by punk biker Spikes Harvey Rotten (and later the alien Tweak), leads a small group of Judges on an epic journey across the Cursed Earth, transporting vaccine for the deadly 2T-FRU-T virus that is devastating Mega-City Two. This multi-part epic is often referred to as 'the first Dredd epic' and was inspired by Roger Zelazny's Damnation Alley. Widowmaker 2000: a fully automatic shotgun used by street judges. It was introduced in 2114 to replace the obsolete Arbitrator. It was introduced to the comic strip in the story "Judgement Day".

Judge Dredd

On that point, Dredd, well known as a Knight Templar, is one of the more upstanding judges. Many other judges fall under Rabid Cop combined with Hanging Judge, many of these cases also being Dirty Judges.

The Screaming Blue Messiahs recorded a song entitled "Mega-City One" on their final album Totally Religious. [143] The Lawgiver is a fictional weapon used by the Judges including Judge Dredd. The Lawgiver is a self-loading handgun featuring manual and automatic focusing and targeting, plus a built-in computer capable of controlling its operation. An in-line gunsight shows the view directly down the barrel. A Lawgiver can only be operated by its designated Judge owner, whose palm print is programmed into the gun's memory. Any attempt by a non-designated user to fire a Lawgiver causes the weapon to self-destruct (a feature introduced by writer Malcolm Shaw). [41] Whilst most of the unholy miracles that take place around the story's midpoint are comical, the last of them is genuinely disturbing, as it consists of every single teddy bear, doll or other cuddly toy in the city's limits being possessed by the vengeful soul of a recently executed psychopath. A trilogy about the Dark Judges, The Fall of Deadworld, was written by 2000AD's editor, Matt Smith, and published by Abaddon Books: While not related to the dangers of the journey itself, there's the mutant daughter of one of the settler families; they left Mega-City One so they wouldn't have to abandon her, but her mutation is very severe, as she no longer looks even close to human, instead resembling a mix of a crab and a snail that needs to be kept in a tank of water. She's still an infant too, and the veteran guide leading the settlers even wonders exactly what she's going to grow into. We never find out either way, even though her family are among the few survivors, as she scuttles off into a stream shortly after arriving in the territories, and is never seen again. In Great Britain, the character of Dredd and his name are sometimes invoked in discussions of police states, authoritarianism, and the rule of law. [2] Over the years, Judge Dredd has been hailed as one of the best satires of American and British culture with an uncanny ability to predict upcoming trends and events such as mass surveillance, the rise of populist leaders, and the COVID-19 pandemic. [3] In 2011, IGN ranked Judge Dredd 35th among the top 100 comic book heroes of all time. [4] By this stage, Wagner had quit, disillusioned that a proposed buy-out of the new comic by another company, which would have given him and Mills a greater financial stake in the comic, had fallen through. [14] Mills was reluctant to lose Judge Dredd and farmed the strip out to a variety of freelance writers, hoping to develop it further. Their scripts were given to a variety of artists as Mills tried to find a strip which would provide a good introduction to the character. This Judge Dredd would not be ready for the first issue of 2000 AD, launched in February 1977. [15] Judge Dredd's first appearance, in an advert in 2000AD #1 (26 February 1977). Art by Mike McMahon, from a story later published in #6. Judge Beeny. Dredd's protégée since 2007. On Dredd's recommendation, Hershey appointed her to the Council of Five. [68] A four-issue miniseries, Under Siege, began in May 2018. It is not connected with any previous IDW Judge Dredd series.

The Dark Judges are a group of undead judges from another dimension, who believe that since all crime is committed by the living, life itself should be a crime. Usually four in number, their leader Judge Death may be said to be Dredd's arch-enemy. Death was first introduced to the series in 1980 and has featured in many stories since, in Judge Dredd and in his own series. The Skysouls repay Fingers in kind by tearing him apart with their psychic powers, telekinetically ripping him apart with their Mind over Matter ability. Lawgiver: The lawgiver machine pistol is the standard sidearm used by judges. It fires six different kinds of bullets, and is programmed to explode when used by an unauthorised user. Three of the host-mothers bashed their brains out, trying to silence the telepathic screaming from their unborn children. A fourth bled to death after attempting to forcibly induce a miscarriage. A fifth died in her sleep, and when autopsied was found to be carrying a deformed embryo with two heads. The pat-wagon or patrol wagon (or sometimes catch wagon) is a standard Justice Department vehicle usually driven by auxiliaries rather than full judges. It can be used to collect prisoners from the streets and take them to holding pens.IDW began a new four-issue miniseries called Judge Dredd: Year One in March 2013, set during Dredd's first year as a judge. [92] The exorcist bullet is a recent addition to the judges' inventory. They are designed for use against supernatural foes. They contain a mixture of silver nitrate, wolfsbane, salt, garlic, holy water, pieces of religious relics, and anything else which might have an effect against ghosts, werewolves and the like. It can be fired from the Lawgiver pistol. Orlok the Assassin was a secret agent from East-Meg One, the Russian counterpart to Mega-City One. He killed millions of innocent citizens with a chemical weapon. The description of the biological degeneration produced as a side-effect of Soon's flawed genesis. His bones are said to be constantly reinventing themselves, spontaneously breaking, warping, and reknitting into new, unnatural shapes underneath his skin. The result is that Soon is in ceaseless pain, to the point he wishes he had a mouth so he could scream...
