About this deal

Of course, the distinct separation between the grey and black parts of the bezel, and the uniformity of the dial gradient, make it obvious this is a design choice that happens to loosely look like a faded and patina watch, even if not intentional. The Tokyo-based company ceased production of these models and shifted their focus to later generations.

The bracelet is also really similar to the Kamasu and it's more than sufficient for this fairly affordable watch, with solid steel links, except for the end links and it even comes with a foldover clasp that houses a generous four micro-adjustment holes.

The indistinguishable transition from polished to brushed surfaces is a subtle hint of the brand’s excellent craftsmanship. Another unique quality of this watch is that this model is also one of the few timepieces from Orient that doesn’t have a day and date window.

Of course, this is not a surefire way to estimate sales numbers, so we need more sources to make our sample bigger. The hands are also a bit different (no more red-tipped seconds hand), andthe day-date display is now unframed. I figure my example is probably an outlier and I am considering purchasing another watch with the same movement to give it a second chance.

As Seiko employs more technology in their wristwatches, not only is the efficiency improved but also the selection of available movement. but that’s only 1mm larger in case diameter than its forebear – I assume to accommodate the new movement which beats at 21,600 bph, hacks and handwinds. However, finding a dive watch that balances both elegance and functionality without breaking the bank can be a challenge. Overall, the Orient Mako II is a great choice for anyone looking for an affordable dive watch that offers both style and functionality. This problem has been fixed with the release of the Orient Mako II which features an Orient F6922 calibre. The shape and finishing of the case are virtually the same too, though perhaps the brushing is a tad neater here than on it's predecessor. As if the Mako collection wasn't hard enough to follow, Orient decided to release a Mako XL between the first and second generations. The black dial and gold casing only come with the essentials – three-hand movement as well as day and date window. I like Orient watches; they are great value, some of them already look decent, but this is the first one I've seen that I think truly looks sexy.

The slits on the bezel are angled toward the top of the watch, making the bezel hard to grip and turn. Finally, I love the lume, which is generously applied and visible even in the light after it’s been charged. Ok, so, the packaging is nothing new, but I was genuinely shocked by how much better this watch looked straight out of the box.You are reading Caliber Corner, the most popular resource for watch movement pics, specs, mods and DIY repairs. Heading into 2020, Orient changed the game by releasing the Orient Kamasu just as the Seiko SKX was being discontinued, the perfect storm for Orient to take over the affordable diver market.
