About this deal

Despite it's scientific content the essays are written in a very accessible style and the many topics investigated which range from the physical explanations of the universe to earth science to robotics and future predictions. Highly recommended for curious minds from around 10 years upwards. Have you ever wondered how the universe began? Or what it takes to put humans on the moon - or even on Mars? What would you do if you could travel through space and time?

A glorious scientific gaze at our world, and the universe beyond in a fact-filled volume that will keep curious kids occupied for ages ReadItDaddy Our solar system’s age is around 4.57 billion years, give or take about 30 million years. In roughly 5 billion years, scientists predict our Sun will grow into a Red Giant. Over 7.5 billion years, its expanding surface will consume Earth. 5)The tallest mountain we’ve found is Olympus Mons on Mars. credit:Photo: ESA/Cluster Stephen then went on to Cambridge to do research in Cosmology, there being no-one working in that area in Oxford at the time. His supervisor was Denis Sciama, although he had hoped to get Fred Hoyle who was working in Cambridge. After gaining his Ph.D. he became first a Research Fellow, and later on a Professorial Fellow at Gonville and Caius College. After leaving the Institute of Astronomy in 1973 Stephen came to the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, and since 1979 has held the post of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics. The chair was founded in 1663 with money left in the will of the Reverend Henry Lucas, who had been the Member of Parliament for the University. It was first held by Isaac Barrow, and then in 1669 by Isaac Newton. The Sun is 109 times wider than Earth, fitting 1.3 million Earths inside. It’s super huge, holding 99.85% of our solar system’s mass. 10)Mathematically, white holes are feasible, yet we haven’t discovered any so far.

A useful addition to any library catering to upper primary or lower secondary students. Veronica Forsyth, Reading Time

The book is both narrated and featuring a lot of essays on the topic. The topics range from the creation of the universe, our solar system, computers and future. Now that we know this signal exists," says Bowman, "we need to rapidly bring online new radio telescopes that will be able to mine the signal much more deeply."

Or what it takes to put humans on the moon? Do you know what happens in the microscopic world of a life-saving vaccine? What would you do if you could travel through space and time? Earlier in his career, Hawking worked on the conundrum that these theories presented: The laws that govern the small aren't applicable to large-scale reality, and vice versa. There is much more to the book than meets the eye. It is one of the most accessible book on Science for people. A must have reference guide for all the people who want to know a little more about the world we live in and the world we are moving into. Penguin Readers is an ELT graded reader series for learners of English as a foreign language.
