About this deal

Taking all of that into account it’s pretty clear why Shimano MW5 (MW501) Dryshield MTB SPD Boots 2020 scored such a great price score of 9.1/10 and why it features as one of the top recommended products in the Shoes category. The first wet test came on a snowy day, wet slushy roads, ice and blizzard conditions meant that this was a true test of the so called Dryshield. After a mile or so it became apparent that although the sole and shoe is waterproof to a certain extent, the dry seal around the ankle is not. After a short time water made its way down my legs and in to the shoe. a) If we have sent you the incorrect bicycle, we will cover the cost of collection and delivery of the correct model.

I expect these conditions are beyond what any shoes should reasonably be able to withstand (my other waterproof gear soaked through too), so I can’t mark them down, but don’t expect them to keep you dry in every circumstance.

When it comes to Shoes – Cycle products such as Shimano MW5, it’s essential to consider quality in addition to price. While it’s tempting to opt for the cheapest option available, low-quality Shimano MW5 can actually end up costing you more in the long run. Mud, puddles and rain are an inevitable part of off-road riding, but the protection offered by Shimano’s MW5 Dryshield SPD MTB Shoes goes a long way towards making each ride more comfortable and enjoyable. Intended for mountain bike use, but equally well suited to winter gravel riding or wet weather commuting, the shoes feature a grippy rubber sole unit that is compatible with SPD-style two-bolt cleats. The shoe is designed to keep your feet warm and dry, and with a sealed sole and Velcro fastenings they certainly look the part. The problem with my current shoes is that the hole for the cleat lets in water and although great for every day cycling, they are not an all weather shoe so the MW5 was exactly what I was after.

I've previously worn out a pair of Shimano winter boots – the MW81s – as they were such faithful companions on six winters of cold rides. In terms of warmth and waterproofing, these MW701s aren't much different, as you get a Gore-Tex insulated, waterproof liner with a Velcro ankle cuff up top. I finished most of my rides with warm, dry feet. However, after a six-hour photoshoot in persistent hard rain, there was no stopping the water from soaking through. The first impressions of the Shimano MW5 Dryshield SPD Shoes were that they were comfortable. They are easy to put on, fasten and they offer plenty of support while riding. I bought them just in time for the recent cold spell names “The Beast from the East” so this was an ideal to try them out. They turned out to be boat-like on my feet, and the size 44s I have now are on the generous side. To confuse matters further, I am also reviewing a pair of Shimano XC7 shoes at the moment, they're also a size 44, and they fit just right. In other words, the MW701s size up big, unlike other shoes in Shimano's range. Value It’s important to note that when shopping for Shoes – Cycle products, it can be tempting to go for the lowest price possible, but be wary of retailers that offer prices that seem too good to be true. Some less reputable retailers may sell counterfeit or low-quality Shimano MW5, which can be dangerous and not perform as well as the genuine product. Choosing a reputable retailer like Chain Reaction Cycles can help ensure that you’re getting a high-quality product at a competitive price. Cycle Centre Congleton Limited 2021. So let’s take a look at the second most important decision making tool we can use when shopping online, price. Whether your goal is to just get the cheapest Shoes available, or to get the best quality at a reasonable price, there’s always going to be a need to do your research on price. Shimano MW5 (MW501) Dryshield MTB SPD Boots 2020 price analysis You should always keep proof of postage and we advise you to use a ‘signed for service’ when returning goods. With regards to their waterproofness, I have mixed reports for the MW7’s. For the initial part of testing they did keep my feet dry and I was raving about them! I rode in the rain, I rode through plenty of puddles and hiked in lots of mud all with dry feet. Every detail of the MW5 has designed to prevent the ingress of water and dirt, making winter rides far more enjoyable. To ensure the best possible performance in winter conditions Shimano have equipped the shoes with a DRYSHIELD® membrane that keeps water, mud and cold winds from getting inside and with a fleece lining embracing your foot you'll also enjoy unrivalled warmth as temperatures drop. Speed lacing closure makes it easy to dial in the perfect fit and there's a lace flap to bring additional weather protection. An additional single Velcro strap towards the top of the foot allows you to snug the shoe down further. The two-bolt SPD cleat compatible sole ensures you can clip into your MTB pedals with ease and if you do have to hop off and push, then the durable rubber outsole provides plenty of grip.Quality Shimano MW5 will last much longer and perform better than their cheaper counterparts. They are typically made with higher quality materials and are designed to withstand the wear and tear that comes with regular use. Investing in a high-quality Shimano MW5 means that you won’t have to replace it as frequently, saving you money.

The MW7 has a flex rating of five out of 12. I found this provided a very comfortable shoe when riding and walking, but without sacrificing power to the pedals – especially for a non-competitive, trail riding MTB shoe. As part of Shimano’s major shoe overhaul for 2021, their off-road ME7 and ME5 models both received grippier rubber and an updated fit. Find photos and details here…

The midsole uses Shimano’s TORBAL ‘torsional balance’ system, allowing more lateral flex towards the heel, which Shimano claims helps improve control on technical downhills and aggressive trail riding, and keep it stiffer under the ball of the foot for power transfer.
