About this deal

This issue contains an article from Clayton Spear regarding the excellent talk given at the DLOC Spring Conference by our guest speaker Aline Angus, by coincidence I had just effected some badly needed repairs to the leather seats in a Barker Special Sports. I am a great believer in con-servation and would rather preserve than replace any item, but as Aline mentioned in her write up there comes a time when the product is no longer fit for purpose and will require replacement. I thought it had reached this point with the seats in this car but decided that I would have one last attempt at repair, the method described by Aline was similar to the one I adopted. We use 16 base mixing colours, these mixing colours are primary, secondary and shade colours which can be mixed together to achieve any colour to match the leather being worked on. A Colour Matching Guide is available to teach you how to mix and adjust colours. Additional support and guidance can also be given over the phone if required. Next up is the leather primer. This is essentially an adhesion promoter designed to allow you to build more layers on top of it to create the best colour match for the look you're trying to achieve. Perhaps you want a light colour, a new colour altogether, or you want to match the old look of your furniture before it grew faded. The Colourant Kit should be used when changing the colour of your leather, the Re-Colouring Balm should only be used to restore colour to leather and not to change it. I want to change the colour of my leather item, should I use the Leather Colourant Kit or the Leather Re-Colouring Balm ?

If you buy commercial leather dyes, you'll find detailed instructions on how to colour leather items. Please take the time to read instructions of leather colourants, because leather dyes are powerful. In saying that, they are highly effective to restore precious items, so it is a task worth undertaking. Always remove grease before you colour leather I found with the method I adopted, the repairs took on the appearance of a crease, in my opinion this effect is perfect for well used leather. We use water-based colourants, a traditional technology that has been used in the manufacturing of leather for years. The end result looks like brand new leather. This is because the product is applied in the same way as in a tannery. Once applied, your leather will look and feel like natural leather, it will never flake, fade or peel off. How it works The reason we recommend matte finishes is because it allows the leather to be the star of the show, and after a re dye job, customers usually like it to be. With gloss or satin, the sheen and shine can often take away from the new color you have just dyed. Most people are familiar with leather dyes and a leather colourant kit, but the terminology behind a leather re colouring balm might be new. This is a cream you apply to scratched or faded leather items, including sofas and all manner of furniture. Leather re colouring balm is easy to apply to leather items Before applying our Leather Colourant, there may be necessary procedures and products to use to achieve a perfect and natural finish. Leather Finish should be applied afterwards for a strong and hard-wearing coating. Colour Options & Colour Matching Better still, we’ll provide you with a specific RAL colour code for your interior so you can easily match it next time. Our Leather Colourants are a water-based polyurethane mixture, with exceptional adhesion abilities, specially formulated to flex with the leather while maintaining high resistance to tear, abrasion and scratching. NORSOL Leather Colourants have a high pigment content, resulting in excellent depth of colour, filling and levelling properties. Often, only two coats are required and in some cases even one can be sufficient.

I'm unsure what size Leather Colourant Kit I require for my project, is there a general guide or 'rule of thumb'?Yes, the Leather Colourant does not need to be thinned before use. If you feel the Colourant is struggling to get through your spray equipment, you can add up to 10% water.

The Leather Colourant has been developed to colour any type of leather. It is however more suited for a non-absorbent leather (pigmented or top-coat) as it recreates the original surface coatings. Whereas the Re-Colouring Balm is predominantly used on absorbent leathers as it needs to penetrate the leather to work to its full ability.

Leather Dye Or Leather Paint: What's The Difference?

This Leather Colourant Kit can be used to restore colour to worn/faded patches or can be used to completely restore or change the colour of furniture, car interior, clothes, shoes and any other item of leather. The perfect leather dye/colourant product to change the colour of leather or restore all worn & faded leather items.

Maybe your leather couch needs leather dye to restore it to its former glory, or maybe you're hoping to completely transform it - taking it from a lighter color to a dark color, or vice versa. To apply it, simply use a sponge or spray to apply thin coats, drying in between each one. The hair dryer is key here, because otherwise you would have to wait a few hours between each coat before you could spray or gently wipe another layer of sealant on to the leather, and it would just take too long. A. Yes, in fact this is great for aniline leather as you are limiting the amount of surface coatings being applied which will help to keep the leather looking more natural and softer. It is also safe to use on vinyl and faux leather. Our Leather Colourants have been designed for use on leather so when colouring vinyl or faux leather, we recommend using our Adhesion Promotor to grant better adhesion. For leather that is also damaged, you may also want to consider purchasing our Repair Add-On with the Leather Colourant Kit. How long does it last?

What does a good leather dye repair kit contain?

One of the great things about leather dye is that it comes in a wide range of colours. This means that you can easily find a dye to match the colour of your leather item, or you can experiment with different colours to create a new colour scheme. The colour match process is simple, and even if the original colour is old, it is possible to dye leather in an effective manner. We have 24 standard colours and hundreds of custom colours including many specific car interior colours. We also offer a colour matching service for an exact match to your leather item. Yes, our Leather Colourants can be used on all leather types, and all articles of leather, such as: furniture, car interiors, handbags, clothing and many more. A. No, this is the benefit of using Leather Repair Paint. The colour seals itself whilst it dries. The only time you would need to apply Leather Finish would be to match the shine of the leather. It is also highly recommended that you use our Adhesion Promotor when colouring over an area which was greasy.
