About this deal

It's, thankfully, still not artificially over-sweet, like most current fragrances are; but, it's not sour, either.

At first appears less complex and more one dimensional. As this lingers on the skin, the different notes start to express. They say smell has a power to envoke feeling and memory and they really mean that. So I guess I'm adding this review for that reason more than anything. All I can give is the experience of it. It's probably not the same as it once was, but I was just stunned at smelling something that was so out of history itself it felt like I *was* there in a way. That's powerful, and its why after everything I think this scent still lingers, cheaply priced and dusty on bottom shelves, yellow veneer and stripes hidden behind the counters and bottles of everything that's in vogue now. A humbled homage to the last big thing before the current big thing. EVERY time someone hugs me, they tell me I smell good. This is now my current signature scent, and I am 1/3 through a 90ml bottle after just 2 months of having it, even though it's in heavy rotation with my other fragrances. I remember buying Giorgio with my hard- earned money from my first real job. I loved the yellow and white striped box, the shape of the bottle, the whole Beverly Hills ideal. Being from a small town and finally being out on my own after graduating from high school I was ready to be a strong independent woman, and strutting around in my cool 80s clothes, big permed hair and wearing Giorgio was awesome! I remember that it was expensive for me at the time (I was a waitress and didn’t earn much money) so it was a treasure for me when I bought it. This is a yellow flower, tuberose bomb and I like tuberose. This is somewhat suffocating, almost a scrubber, except it smells good. It's just SUPER SWEET on me in a way gourmands aren't. This is a ripe open flower. This is

Some of the super notes include aldehydes, citruses, carnation, honey, benzoin, patchouli, sandalwood, cedar wood, oak moss, amber, musk & vanilla. As you can see, the white flower bombs from the woman's perfume are absent and instead the minimal florals of carnation & rose give this scent the perfect amount of floweriness without being cloying or headache inducing. I don't think of this scent as being floral when compared to the woman's perfume, but that one carnation & one rose really can be detected at one point and smells like a very elegant corsage on a day wear tux. Makes me think of a man in a white suit playing a white piano at a wedding on a lawn or garden. Absolutely perfect as a soft floral that one might consider as being the better for it when compared to the extremities of florals in Giorgio For Women. Here you have summertime peaches, elegant white flowers, amber, vanilla, moss and sandalwood, this is glorious and with a price that’s ridiculous! I have a vintage bottle of this, and although it is dated, it is also celestially beautiful--it reminds me of a cross between the original Gentleman by Givenchy (with the pronounced honey, rose and patchouli notes) mixed with the fruitiness of Givenchy III. This reads to my nose as exceptionally versatile--it would be cooling in summer and comforting in winter, and appropriate for leisure or for a nighttime event (though it is so strong I would not recommend wearing this to the office. It also reads to me as very unisex, especially given all the floral and fruity notes in it. Although it's an ultra clean, refreshing scent it's definitely suited for cooler weather and it's nuclear, so will be way too potent for warmer weather.

Reformulated? If it has been, I can't tell. Smells exactly the same as I remember it from the 90's. Brilliant! I think Giorgio is going to help me deliver exactly what I want to convey about myself to the general public. Actually, Giorgio Beverly Hills really just makes me smell like an old whore but I kinda dig that, actually. I bought this because I love patchouli, and saw the comparison to Givenchy Gentleman (1974). This couldn't be more wrong. I was desperate to love this - I love patchouli. This reminds me very much of this with a slight ever so slight hint of Lotus. Paris Hilton would like this.

Oh yes, Giorgio! This was popular when I was in High School in the late 80s. A loud, floral, fruity bomb, much different and louder/stronger than the fruity- florals of today. I remember the advertising for this, it wasn't sold in regular stores at first so you really had to have money and access to get your hands on this. I do see the similarity to Givenchy GENTLEMAN... but this, the Giorgio, is less sweet, less musky and less "aquatic". The patchouly/honey is more reined-in here. This is everything eighties; big hair, big jewellery, big eye make up and BIG fragrance. A tuberose lovers dream. If Giorgio happens to suit your body chemistry and is worn in moderation (i.e. a strict maximum of two small squirts!), it really is second to none. It surprises me that so many feel that the current formulation is as good as the original. No offense, but, there really is no comparison. This has become a clumsy, flat, obnoxious caricature of itself, seemingly powered by mothballs. These cheaply done reforms are why people don't appreciate classics and overpay for overrated wannabee niche fragrances. OK, that's a bit extreme but you get the point.

If you can withstand the blast, you'll be addicted. The spicy and sweet balance is unlike anything I've experienced before. There does come a point where the honey/patchouli cloud finally retreats a bit, which is when you can start to catch hints of cinnamon, vanilla, even some citrus. But the glowing coals of the initial patchouli and honey continue to burn throughout. Versatility: 3 out of 5 – This scent works well for day/night, autumn/winter, in classy/formal occasions, for men over 35. It would come off best for me in a suit. A few years ago however, I would have given it to my dad as a gift he’d appreciate! My full bottle finally arrived today! And what a surprise it turned out to be. Not what I expected. Better!

When the drydown arrives it becomes something along the lines of a combination of Eau Sauvage, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme and Azzaro Pour homme, with some added patchouli, and also some honey to sweeten it a little. It's longevity is rather average 4 hours on me tops, but then this is an Eau de Toilette. I actually layered this with Ms P Hilton's 'Fairy Dust' EDP, toning down that fanny smelling mango. It's just hit spring here in Melbourne and is still a little chilly and the nights are still cold where I reside. The patchouli of 'Fairy Dust' suits our winter. There's no sweetness in this, either from sweet fruits or gourmand notes or amber. If you like florals at all, or are at least curious as to what everyone raves about, I suggest that you give this a try.Besides, Giorgio will always remind me of my mother smiling every time I gift her with a new optimistic white and yellow box with her favorite perfume. I have several bottles of the original, still in boxes, with the screw off sprayers (to be used as a splash). The liquid is a more natural amber-green color. It goes on much smoother and richer with a boozy orangey-rumlike quality. It does resemble vintage Givenchy Gentlemen somewhat (minus that one's gorgeous use of civet). It's predominantly a luscious, damp patchouli (as opposed to the dry raspy (synthetic?) current) and honey scent with a slight incense radiating throughout. Vanilla becomes more apparent during the latter stages. A couple sprays from a distance and this is a subtle and very tasteful scent. Three or more sprays and you may as well be hanging with the Festrunk Brothers from SNL, so best to use with discretion. Well, having several years of nose training now, I can, indeed, understand better what I like and don't like about it. I've learned I love white florals, actually, but I definitely prefer tuberose (and lily -- Anais Anais!) to gardenia. I recently discovered another 80's gem, the tuberose-heavy Design (Paul Sebastian) -- also a steal at discount stores -- and absolutely adore it, with its raunchy, grounding civet note. I also love the tuberose-rich Juicy Couture (their original fragrance), a tuberose with a gourmand twist (watermelon and caramel -- seems odd but I think it totally works). Also, I've smelled Serge Lutens' Tubereuse Criminelle and Malle's Carnal Flower, and love them, but they're out of my price range, so I don't own them. But, in spite of my love for tuberose, the presentation of the tuberose in Giorgio is WAY too much; in fact, it's positively suffocating. Maybe it's the way the ylang ylang magnifies the sweetness of the tuberose combined with the aggression of the oakmoss that just sends it over the top for me in a very bad way. :( The bottle was glass & came in a larger over 3 ounce size. It's classified as an Oriental chypre. At the first whiff and as the performance begins, I detected similarities to Givenchy Gentleman. This was like a cross between that & Giorgio For Women. There are aldehydes, nondescript fruit notes, & citrus when it opens. Fresh & quite outdated by today's standards, and I'm referring to the original vintage classic (1984) which sold at the original boutique on Rodeo Drive. The first smell you get is alcohol straight off the bottle, aldehydes, but nothing like you'd imagine a woman's aldehydic perfume to smell like. The citruses are quite sour & strong, and something lightly fruity like banana, lemon or lime is there to provide it with a refreshing scent. Total day wear. I was bracing myself for an evening cologne of Oriental smoke & dark woods but instead it comes off as a casual playboy on a yacht with a polo shirt & shorts. Smells like California bachelors in Newport Beach.
