About this deal

Kinetic sand has been the hot toy for a few years now, and it’s not just kids who love it. Adults find this stuff soothing and oddly satisfying too. Kinetic sand is regular sand that’s been coated with silicone oils. This makes it smooth and moldable, with a moist texture that never dries out. We’ve rounded up our favorite kinetic sand activities to use in your classroom or at home during distance learning. Whether kids are learning math, reading, writing, creativity, or fine motor skills—kinetic sand works for them all. Which came first—the dinosaur or the egg? We can’t say for sure, but your kids will have fun learning about their favorite prehistoric beasts with this activity. Cut apart a plastic bin and use with layers of kinetic sand to show how Earth’s layers form geographical features, like mountains, as the tectonic plates move.

I also consulted with three experts to learn more about dinosaurs and dinosaur toys. I interviewed W. J. T. Mitchell, Gaylord Donnelley distinguished service professor at the University of Chicago and author of The Last Dinosaur Book: The Life and Times of a Cultural Icon; Ali Mierzejewski, editor-in-chief at The Toy Insider; and David Fastovsky Ph.D, professor emeritus at the University of Rhode Island.

15. Enjoy a day at the beach.

Kinetic sand activities are just more fun than a dry-erase board! This is an easy, reusable way for kids to practice basic writing. Amp up the sensory experience by turning kinetic sand into slime. This slime is smooth and stretchy, without feeling quite so “slimy.” Learn how to make it at the link below. Ten dinosaurs playing. Playing in their new pool. The pool they built for themselves! Splash! Splash! Splash!” Kinetic sand activities like this one are fun, but they incorporate learning too. Encourage your students to name the potato head parts as they place them and use positional words to tell you whether they’re above, under, and so on. While you’re learning about planets, drop by the surface of the moon to explore for awhile. We’re not saying you have to use this cool glow-in-the-dark kinetic sand, but why wouldn’t you?

Fill up a small plastic bin with Kinetic Beach Sand or regular Kinetic Sand. Both are excellent materials to use, though we prefer the beach sand because it’s more coarse and easier to clean off toys. Next, pour your kinetic sand in your sensory table along with some plastic dinosaurs and invite your little learners to start exploring!

What I love about this is that it uses only 3 inexpensive and common household ingredients. So what are you waiting for? Lets make edible kinetic sand! What is Kinetic Sand? Invite your toddler to explore the bin by filling up the eggs with sand, hissing the dinosaurs, or making footprints.

Kinetic sand is regular sand that is coated in silicone oil. It’s great to play with because it’s soft, wet and moldable and it never dries out! It’s really fun to squeeze and run through your hands, and makes the perfect addition to sensory bins for kids. After the boneshave been excavated, invite your young scientist to identifythe dinosaur. We like to use these kids science books:
