Joanna Glen has a remarkable way of propelling her characters from the page into your heart; the women in this novel are so intensely passionate and real - you live and breathe their stories right up until the end. She suffered with endometriosis and had no one to sympathise with her; and then she lost all her friends. Bridget’s home is everything Eva dreams of; siblings, noise, mess, chaos - and the most warm and loving mother that ever lived. This novel is like nothing I've ever read, and I've immediately bought the author's first book as I enjoyed this one so much. And when she finds out that her best friend, Gladys, is dying in Brisbane, she joins forces with new friends she has made – the indomitable Beryl and the Houdini of Banksia House, Keith – to hatch an escape plan.

Eva is growing up with parents with whom she just doesn’t seem to bond – Dad is Spanish from Andalucía and Mum is a fragile, reclusive woman who has no motherly warmth. After all, isn’t it the least we can expect, not only a mother, but an emotionally supportive person there for you no matter what? All My Mothers is a captivating and heartening view of motherhood and what it means to be a mother, both within its traditional parameters, and in all its unconventional but beautiful ways. This is a woman who gave up her high-powered career to steer her 3 boys to their best lives, and who actually makes notes about questions to guide mealtime discussions.

All My Mothers by Joanna Glen - Fantastic Fiction

Y , por su puesto, siempre de la mano de unos personajes que son maravillosa y terriblemente humanos. Sobre todo destaca cuánta historia se puede acumular entre dos personas, a tal punto que se convierten en la familia que elegimos para nosotros mismos. A bittersweet tale of love, friendship, motherhood and longing, All My Mothers tells the story of Eva’s quest to figure out who she is, where she comes from, and to find a place of true belonging. This is where Eva starts her journey to find out who she is, where she comes from and to try and understand the many variations of motherhood. Even the feel of the book in one's hand is healing - so soft, so pliable and comforting, so silent, even in the turning of pages.

Her father, she knows, is in the vicinity and there is a good chance she might bump into him, of course. She has published 5 pamphlets of poetry, appeared in several anthologies, and shared her writing in many places, from a forest in Kentucky to Glastonbury Festival, and even in the game of Minecraft. So yeah, by romanticising nuns who literally took away a baby from a muslim woman (with the very same practice used by fascist, stealing nuns) it doesn't really leave a good taste in my mouth. All My Mothers is a heartfelt tale that brings to light the importance of finding one's roots and embracing personal history.

In 1999, she founded Wild Women Press, and now curates the Wild Woman Web, an inclusive online space focussing on nature, connection and creativity. The book has a poetic sensibility in which colours, feelings and scents merge, creating this moving story world. We see the lovely friend she makes on her first day of school and the way that girl’s family take Eva under their wing. All My Mothers (Podcast): In 2020, a podcast adaptation of All My Mothers was produced by Radiotopia's Love + Radio series. I have much more to say but since this is currently still unreleased, I’ll keep it short and sweet as to not spoil the experience for anyone.

But as the narrative continued, and despite everyone’s problems, the story became one of women supporting each other: Eva found a succession of ‘mothers’ with different qualities: the Spanish nun, her own birth mother (after initial difficulties), her friends, and finally Eva herself became a proxy mother to her friend’s child. Es una historia coming-of-age impresionante con una voz narradora que va cambiando conforme la prota va creciendo. Witnessing a mother nurture her son and her garden so tenderly while grappling with grief and the responsibilities of a carer was an unexpectedly beautiful and life-affirming experience. De base j’ai choisi ce livre pour le sujet qu’il semblait traité en 4e de couverture, càd les mamans (et plus largement les familles) de coeur. All My Mothers is a book by author Kyoko Mori that explores the themes of identity, family, and belonging.

All My Mothers: The heart-breaking new novel from the author

Each short chapter begins with a beautiful illustration and description of a wild plant, each related to the unwinding of an honest memoir.Determined to see what can grow, Victoria and her young son set about transforming the rubble around them.
