About this deal

This book needs all the stars! It made me laugh, it made me cry and I just want to start it all over again.' Every child needs teaching training, modeling in the areas of character, relationships, identity, mission I finished it, but didn’t want to finish it, I fell in love with all the characters, the humour and heartbreak.

Stepping Up by Sarah Turner | WHSmith Stepping Up by Sarah Turner | WHSmith

His stories about what people have done when they were willing to step ranged from those who created large and amazing organizations to those who were willing to step up and say something at a team development activity. The integration of life style and choices are applicable to our personal lives and our day to day work with colleagues. It's common sense stuff. Which is fine, but not exactly what I was expecting from this one. I suppose I'll take responsibility for my internal assumptions about what I would learn from Stepping Up. It's not YOU, book, it's me. I loved how Beth stepped up in her own way. Yes, she had to adapt, and she got it wrong a few times as most of us do, but she didn’t give up, and it was inspiring to see her grow. But here is the truth. There is a 100 percent guarantee that nothing will change if you don't step up." pg 33

It had me laughing out loud, on a bus no less, crying and laughing. This book is a tonic! I read it in one go. I was rooting for Beth the whole way through!!' I loved & hated how much this book made me feel! I wasn’t prepared to feel such wonderful raw emotions for fictional characters! It has to be said that of late I’ve turned into a more emotional person but still…My heart is so full but aches so much at the same time! How is that possible?! The consequence of having a seismic shift towards victim thinking means more of us feel that the future is not in our hands but in the hands of forces outside ourselves. And since internal locus of control is positively correlated with happiness, success and initiative while external locus of control is related to anxiety and depression, it's pretty clear that most organizations and society as a whole would be better off if more of us believed we could change things." pg 21 But this isn't just an extended blog post with some new names. As a fiction book Stepping Up is an assured debut - well-paced, tightly plotted and has a host of believable characters who you can't help but root for - with a special mention for Beth's lovely neighbour Albert. It’s difficult to leave a review about this story that will do it justice, it was simply excellent.

Stepping Up: the joyful and emotional Sunday Times bestseller Stepping Up: the joyful and emotional Sunday Times bestseller

Beth is the perfect protagonist – strong, lovable, frustrating and perfectly flawed. As a reader, it’s clear she needs to go through a rite of passage – and you soon experience her pain along this journey. I felt deeply for Beth dealing with her family tragedy and during the daily mishaps, which often followed with sarcastic mutterings from her mother or Beth’s inner critic. Here I should mention the flipside to these moments – like many parenting stories; there were moments of hilarity, such as the sharply observed description of a modern children’s party. I am only one person. Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has – Margaret Mead, noted anthropologist. It is important as we go through life that we are always working on ourselves, learning new skills (physical and mental), and growing. This book is a great tool to use on that journey. I can see myself owning this book (The copy I read is from the library.) and reading it annually, always looking for a new way to apply the wisdom and advice to my life.I loved Albert and his shouty texts, and Jory, who I was rooting for the entire read! Beth was funny, and I couldn’t help but laugh with her.

Stepping Up: How to accelerate your leadership potential Stepping Up: How to accelerate your leadership potential

Beth is now guardian to her teenage niece and toddler nephew, catapulted into an unfamiliar world of bedtime stories, parents' evenings and cuddly elephants. Having never been responsible for anyone - or anything - it's not long before she feels seriously out of her depth. Imagine having a carefree life, coming and going as you please, quitting things you didn’t enjoy. Then suddenly following a tragedy you take over caring for a teenager and a toddler.Who is the person(s) that I need to be courageous and intentional with regarding influence and relationship? This is emotive and thought-provoking and one of the best things I've read for ages. If you're a parent it'll also make you think about your will if it's been a while since you sorted it. I had the fantastic opportunity to hear and see Dr. John Izzo during a staff event at the company I work for early this year. Even though he wasn't able to join us in real life, he managed to keep us challenged through a 90 minutes videoconference. Kudos to him for pulling this off.
